Likely most VV'ers already know this but, did you know that Canoe Brewpub used to be a coal power plant? My latest post is about the architectural premise of adaptive reuse and how it applies in Victoria. Have a read about some of my favourites! https://www.sidewalk...se-in-victoria

Nice read. I was there for the first time this summer myself. Lovely place and the brewery (nanobrewery?) was excellent. Rode out there and stayed at a friend's cabin. Spent some time swimming and relaxing at Bennett Bay one afternoon, which I'd recommend. Didn't have time for the Japanese Gardens but that's on my list for next time. Would recommend a visit and it's a great island to cycle around - not too big/busy and hills aren't bad.

In a post certain to ruffle a few NIMBY feathers, take a look at my newest post about Ogden Point and what I would like to see there.
Let me know what you would like to see here.

I walk (a lot), but find bicyclists take some of the enjoyment out of it (and, represent a potentially serious sidewalk hazard).
My pet beef is bicyclists (on sidewalks, and even worse, going at roadway speeds). Well, that and their ignoring stop signs, traffic signals and using crosswalks as if they were pedestrians. Oh, and not wearing helmets.
Does anyone disagree that organ donation (and ticketing for breaking the law) ought to be compulsory in such instances when those helmetless bicyclists experience a non-recoverable accident? This would be a way for our society to achieve some sort of compensation for having covered bicyclists' medical costs relating to avoidable head injuries.

ps. The photos are nice but have you tried posting video tours of your walks on youtube?

I have actually considered the idea of doing video tours. Just haven't got around to it yet. Maybe soon.
I did also just finish a new post on Setbacks though if you would like to have a read!

New post up on Sidewalking Victoria, this time I put forward my thoughts on how the City can take the idea of moving the Crystal Pool to the arena lot and actually do something good! Have a read!

Yesss, you raise several good points but so long as walkers are free to smoke on our public sidewalks (or vape, including cannabis) buildings with a lack of setbacks put visitors and occupants at risk of a nuisance (foul odours) and/or health hazard (especially if they're inclined to asthma). The "seven metre" no smoking (from bus stops, windows, doors) rule is not perceived to include mobile smokers. Not that the bylaw's rigourously enforced (though it's been having a good impact through voluntary compliance). jbw

As a pedestrian there are things that you have to be careful of. It might be the sidewalk that floods two blocks from your house or an old pipe sticking out of the ground. Take a read of my latest post on these Sidewalk Traps and more.
