I also think you can likely replicate sunlight and a view, and of course you need to have mechanical air circulation somehow.

Even in Nazi death camps they had prostitutes for the hardest workers. Maybe they will up your happiness level to compensate.

All of which comes with a price. Might as well have windows.

It does come with a price. But building so that every unit has an exterior wall is inefficient. Very inefficient.

I am not sure psychological health is ever inefficient.

Nobody MUST live there.

Residential mental health facilities were closed down in the name of efficiency. I think we can see how well that worked out.

Ok, how about you go about your waking day in a communal sunroom. But at night you get in Sparky’s drawer to sleep.

Exactly. So now you can double book. Vampires plus workers.

Why not just house people where they work? Seems like we’d solve the problem in one step.

Like the cubicle becomes a Murphy bed, and any kids born into this setup, can be babysat by a co-worker. Each day the care provider switches so everyone learns parenting skills.

Looks like we’ve solved the housing issue.

What next?

It’s the same problem, you’ve solved them both.

Some people would gladly live in an apartment with no windows. Not everyone though.

Think inside stateroom on a cruise ship. Have screens on some walls showing a live feed from outside.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

That might be OK for a week or two, but to live this way for any extended period of time would lead to madness.

You can always go outside. At night, you have your curtains drawn anyway.

What happens when you get sick or the weather is inclement? You'd be stuck inside an airless, viewless box. I think there's a reason that in thousands of years of human civilization nearly all dwellings have had views/openings to the outside.

Not to side with Vic Watcher but there are no windows in the sleeping quarters of the ISS that I am aware of and didn't someone stay up there for a year?

I am pretty sure it takes a lot of training to reside on the ISS. Also it does have windows and the view from them is "out of this world".
