Does this levy apply to the sacred fire at tent city?

CRD's "Cut the Sizzle Levy" to tax barbecues, open fire cooking

Residents of southern Vancouver Island will face a new tax this spring just in time for barbecue season.

A statement released by the Capital Regional District (CRD) claims that a new fee structure, aimed at discouraging the use of outdoor barbecues and food cooked over open fires, will establish the region as a forward-thinking environmental steward.

"In an era of conscious efforts to reduce carbon emissions, the 'Cut the Sizzle Levy' hopes to encourage CRD residents to think twice before firing up their barbecue burners," the statement says. [Full article]

But it seems EXACTLY like the sort of thing the CRD would implement (but then not enforce, like smoking regulations)

Would have gotten me if you had included a Ben Islitt quote, and some reference to exempting sacred fires...

You're saying the CRD is all sizzle but no steak?

I suppose this is one way for the CRD to bring home the bacon.

Pork barrel politics are inevitable when you have so many municipalities. The CRD needs to cut some fat. They act like pigs at the trough. When are we going to start holding their feet to the fire?

So close to the actual CRD bone I fell for it. But another beer doused my fury.

There are some searing comments in this thread. The CRD is getting grilled. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. I didn't expect such raw remarks, but it's understandable when mad people have a beef and they've been marinating in quiet indignation. Well done, everybody.

Baloney is the only meat that's cooking at the CRD.
