This is not an April Fool's joke. Ecoasis has plans to build a gondola between Mt. Finlayson and its Langford development.

Langford's Bear Mountain Resort has revealed plans to construct a gondola between the development’s commercial core and the top of nearby Mt. Finlayson, a popular hiking and mountain biking destination for south Island residents.

Although plans are still several years out, developer Ecoasis hopes to provide access to the popular natural landmark for individuals with all levels of physical abilities. Additional information regarding the gondola and its operations will be revealed at a future date. [Full article]

While I wouldn't mind seeing Bear Mountain become a major tourist attraction, I don't see this making money. This is not Stawamus Chief.

A gondola no, but a vehicle cable ferry from the top of the Malahat to Bear mountain would be popular when the highway is closed.

No problem, this is not ingenious enough for his taste.

He only likes ideas that less than a 87%* failure rate.

The irony here is they want to build a gondola to go and visit a nice natural hill top.... Would have been cheaper to maybe keep a little nature on their hill....
