V2V: we are currently doing sea trials and hope to be in service in the next couple of weeks if everything goes well
Nothing has gone particularly well for V2V since they launched, but I suppose there's a first time for everything.

Update - looks like their Facebook and Instagram state they returned Friday (Jan 12) but direct customers to book via telephone. Seems like an ineffective way to do business in 2018, no doubt temporary. But makes you wonder what’s going on in the back end preventing bookings online?
Looks like they switched to a new reservation system. The online booking process is different than it used to be.

Yup. And now we can not see how full (empty) a sailing is.
I suppose that frees up more time for us old men in the basements to solve more crimes.

...And now we can not see how full (empty) a sailing is...
I am sure that is entirely coincidental...

Speaking of trains "Commuter" is a pretty good movie even though Liam Neeson is now a senior beating up bad guys.

This is typical winter fare out of Victoria, so is it the wimpy operators or the wimpy passengers.

Julian Wright, nephew of Riverside chief executive Hume Campbell, has stepped in as general manager for V2V in Victoria and brings to work each day the same optimism for the passenger ferry service between Victoria and Vancouver as his uncle.
“I’ve spent a good amount of time with Hume on this project and I completely support the move to come to Victoria,” said Wright, the fourth generation of the family to work in the business.
Wright said the vast experience of Riverside’s 90-plus years in business, the diversity of experience the company has had and the similarities between Canada and Australia — where the company has the bulk of its operations — have led him to the same conclusion as Campbell, that V2V will be a viable operation.

I didn't know or forgot that the Clipper cancelled their plans.
14 million bucks in... yipes, that's gonna take a loooooong time to get a decent return on. Aren't you basically aiming for a $1 million profit annually with that kind of investment?

How long do we give this? I can't imagine it being successful unless they rework their fare structure? Have they made any changes to pricing besides the deal for the first month or whatever?
If I can take a harbour plane for the same or less than this ferry.... there is an issue.

Current price is $70 each way.
Comparable - or less - than the Clipper to Seattle.
I used it to come back from Vancouver Sunday. Unfortunately less than 10 passenger on board.
It's a great service, hopefully it finds it's place.

Remember, a 95-passenger, $3.5M vessel does this same route every day in summer, just branded as "whale watching" and it sells out some days.

That $70 price is for a limited number of seats and a limited time according to the V2V website.
"Limited early bird savings available! Save $40 on Premium! All early bird seats are in center aisle, no window seats available"
The regular pricing structure is significantly higher especially at the "Royal Passenger" level (does anyone actually buy these seats?)
Until the end of February* the Victoria Clipper is offering the following return fare for trips that originate here:
This is about $120 Cdn and you can select any seat on board.
I just don't see how V2V's current prices are going to entice many people.
*$10 US more starting March 1st

V2V is currently running a 2 for 1 promo. With the promo, 2 people booked in Premium seats ends up being cheaper than the BC Ferry Connector bus and an hour faster.
