Todd, how high did your view count climb?

Got up to around 100 viewing at the same time. Had a good time, more than anticipated.

You're a trooper! We barely kept up with you as you blasted through the crowds.

Know it all.

On what grounds did the police seize the sound equipment last night?

I realize the police can seize something if they believe that it's going to be used in the commission of a crime.  What crime did they believe was about to be committed?

Was this a temporary seizure? Will they be getting their equipment back?

Todd: Does the "crowd" spill out much beyond the edges of Centennial Square?

It was spilling but most of the crowd was centered towards the fountain.

Saanich police too? I disapprove as a Saanich tax payer!

When a municipality needs reinforcements does that Municipality have to pay for policing services of the neighboring Municipality? Or is it all just a mutual service agreement?

Under the understanding that the Fire departments get a fairly substantial sum of money when they have to reinforce another Municipality.

The policing bill for last night must have been a hefty one.

DIY Street Party Update
Posted on Apr 22, 2016
As you may be aware, there is an event called the “DIY Street Party” planned for Centennial Square on Friday, April 22nd that has been posted on Facebook. The event organizers have invited 8,400 people, and 3,200 have posted that that they plan to attend. This event has not yet been approved by the City, as no permit application was made. As a result, there is no site security plan, which is required to ensure everyone’s safety. There are no plans for washroom facilities, first aid, refreshments, or traffic control. The event organizers have no insurance and are directly liable for any costs incurred should anyone be hurt or any property damaged during this event. Additional staffing costs to ensure public safety, which are borne by the City and include the costs of policing the event, will also become the responsibility of the organizers.
We are working with local business owners in anticipation of this event. Some planned activities, including the use of an amplified speaker to play music, will likely interfere with the rights of other people in the downtown area, including a school musical being performed in the MacPherson Theatre.
Please talk to your family and friends to see if they plan to attend this event. If they are, please remind them that the downtown area exists for everyone to enjoy safely – our community has rules in place to ensure respect for everyone’s interests, and everyone has a part to play in community safety and respect for others.

From what I could see, the crime was mostly bad dancing.

It's hard and can intimidate others when I set the bar so high.

You seemed to be having a better time than many of the other participants. It all looked rather dull to me.

That's probably because all of my dancing was off-camera.

I know that Nparker's legendary events set the bar pretty high but:

When it's planned support the receiving jurisdiction pays the costs.

According to photos posted by the organizers, this seems like a promotional ploy for an AL Reford, who wants to be elected to parliament. Unfortunately for Al the biggest cohort at the event were teens who ...can't vote.

Know it all.

It's true. My Friday night "Zen in the Den" galas are legendary.

Not only were other police departments in attendance, they also had a bunch of officers on call.

According to the TC today, the 'organizer(s)' never showed up. It was basically a few hundred looky loos and a guy who brought his amp.

As I said earlier, one kook and a facebook page and you can stir up a lot of poop in this town. Shame on the media for even giving it notice.

Well, at least we have a great example of the mainstream media getting uppity over stuff they once upon a time relegated to "social media" and "bloggers."
