So keeping with the positive vibes - here’s some fresh pics from just an hour ago! Great progress my friends, as proven by the photos below.
Work is now progressing on the sidewalks. It was hard to get to close a shot as three sides of the building are blocked off to pedestrians because they are working on the sidewalks. Below you’ll see pics of the Johnson street side where the sidewalk area will be soon. It’s been actually closed for a couple years now due to a faulty city main which caused the previous sidewalk and road to collapse.
You can see great progress on the Cook street side with the ground being prepared for a wider sidewalk and I guess some new sod. Finally Pandora street where part of the sidewalk is already completed - great! And look, you can the wood forms in place for the rest. Still not sure how the building connects to the sidewalk on Pandora, like what the moat walkways will be constructed of, and if there will be a water feature underneath, or just rocks. I actually think the metal balconies should be on the Johnson street facing side and the glass on Pandora, because as you’re sitting in your living room on Pandora you can then have a clear view of the green and beautiful trees, whereas on the Johnson street side, maybe you really don’t want to have as clear of a view. Still probably has to do with sun exposure so I’m sure it’s actually a great choice and will turn out great for the future residents! These also have to be the nicest metal balconies in Victoria, trying to think what even comes close? As much as I like the Jukebox, those looks cheap in comparison.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed the pics - feel free to send me specific requests for updates if there is anything else you’d like to get a better look at.

I don’t see an orange gate in any of the 4 pictures.
If I am up all night.... somebody gonna get a hurt real bad.

If all goes well, I’d say that in 3-4 weeks this could be done (that’s only 15-20 working days), otherwise 4-6 might be more realistic. That’ll be great news once completed though as this will enable residents to safely enter and exit the building as required by various fire and safety regulations, removing a hurdle to eventual occupancy.

As slow as this project has been, it has a classic, yet contemporary aesthetic that is going to serve it well for many years.

- are Johnson St units getting metal balconies? All exterior renderings I've seen show Johnson St units with metal balconies and no communication suggesting otherwise.
- since North Bldg units are complete, does anyone have pics of the finished interiors to share?
- asked a couple weeks ago but are there any pics of the rooftop progress yet?
Thanks!

In zoomer’s pics from last week there is a shot looking towards the north building in which you can spy an interior of one of the units. It’s not very clear but it was exciting to see the interior nonetheless.
I had hoped we’d have had someone snap a photo from the adjacent highrise but that hasn’t materialized yet.

No real progress on the sidewalk this past week, perhaps focusing on interior work. As for the VIHA interior as you can see in the photos I took the interior steel studs are in. Still lots to do, but it's spectacular and perfect for the location. I've always liked dark reflective glass along leafy tree lined streets, which is why I think the lot beside the Jukebox would be perfectly suited for a narrow 6-12 storey building.

In that last pic you could believe the gravel extends well beyond the edge of the picture. As if the entire city were situated on a vast gravel plain.

Yes, that was the side walk/road collapse - apparently a low priority to get back into service all these years later.
