http://www.camra.ca just announced the top pubs of the year. This includes only pubs that serve a "proper ale" which includes using a proper ale glass.

4th - Christie's
3rd - Canoe Club (who IIRC has held the title for several years)
2nd - Swans

although all of the above are just given the title of "CAMRA supported" for the year, I'm not sure the placings are documented (well, anywhere but here now :) )

1st - Spinnakers

which now has the title of CAMRA pub of the year.
This is the group that puts on the "Great Canadian Beer Festival" and the annual "CAMRA Amateur brewing contest".

For brews, and brews only, Spinnakers deserves that spot!

Thanks for bringing this up, hb!

Yeah but for service I would drop it down a notch. I have to say that I have always enjoyed the brews at Canoe and you topit off with a gorgeos building and great atmospere and you have a good time.

That's my choice!

When I take peeps to Cano, I love to tell them the story about the history of the building. It bores them, I'm sure, but fascinates me.

I have good memories of Canoe. I went to school just next door and had a four hour break between classes. Time well spent, I thought. Of course, I totally flunked my afternoon class.
