We've all made that mistake before. But there's an easy mnemonic to avoid mixing them up: the Manhattan is the one that looks nothing like Manhattan, whereas the Metropolitan is the one that doesn't seem very Metropolitan.

I'm pretty sure there is a height covenant on the 7-Eleven building and its neighbour that was imposed in order to build the approx. 12 storey Metropolitan condo tower next door.
That photo of the 7-Eleven shows it in the best light possible. Every other time I've seen it there's a crowd of panhandlers, and junkies sleeping and shopping carts overflowing with junk. It's madhouse there all day long.
True. I asked them if they could move out of the shot for a minute as I needed a clear building picture. They were reluctant at first until I showed them my VV Press Pass. They even took it from me to examine if it was real or not, lol!
By the way, if anyone comes across a MasterCard somewhere near the Market on Yates, let me know. I think I lost it that same morning.

15-storey Manhattan!
Geez Louise...
Hey, I did say approximately. As in it is approximately the Metropolitan.

Any news on the mings lot?
Its marketed for lease, so likely part of a longer term play for starlight once they acquire a few more properties...
Interestingly... they've been issued permits to cap the site services and "safe off" the electrical. There is also a demolition permit under review.

This sounds like a good idea. Of course a lot of rats will become homeless.

You jest, but rodents are very good at emigrating from buildings due to be demolished. By the time the structure's gone down they'll be holed up in neighboring buildings.
I'm not sure if this is the case in the City of Victoria but in many Metro Vancouver cities you won't get a demolition permit without a report proving there are no rodents in the building.

How does one go about getting one of those fake reports?
Seriously though, you can open an envelope in the city of Vancouver and there's a good chance there will be a rat in it.

I ask a single question about a derelict building and they start tearing it down - I never knew that I had the level of clout that I have on VV

I hate to be a critic, you're doing a great job, but the previous photographer never would have missed something like that. He would have provided extensive coverage of that garbage bin.

Mike K. has done a good job with that message board feature. All we need to do is talk about something and shortly thereafter it will happen.

Since the photo above was taken, supports have starting going in for the deck of the 13th floor. Won't be too much longer before this one tops out.

Emergency crews are on scene at Johnson and Quadra streets. Roads in the area are closed to traffic as an incident is dealt with.
At least four Victoria fire trucks and three ambulances are on scene.
Witnesses said workers on the third and fourth floor began feeling light-headed, but couldn’t smell anything. The building was evacuated and those who were feeling light-headed are being checked out by paramedics on scene.
