The green screen scaffolding has come down on the first phase of their renovations.  As can be seen they've replaced all the exterior windows and doors.  The new ones have white frames.

Here is a rendering of the before/after look followed by a shot I took today.  Looks good.

Here's a wider shot from my underutilized Sony R1.  I don't think the gray trim is final, maybe a primer coat.  Click through to flickr for more detail.

I was wondering about that since the trim appears white in the rendering above.

Too bad. I actually like the grey colour. I think it gives the Regent a more modern look.

Don't be so sure.

The Exterior Renovation is Complete...

The scaffolding is down, the windows have been replaced and the exterior painted.  The dark gray they ultimately chose (vs. white in the rendering) for the trim looks good, much better than the color gradient of the original.

Here is the original (from Feb 2016):

Nice facelift. Condo units in the hotel are available for sale. What would be some pros and cons to buying in that kind of setup?

It will also be interesting to see what, if anything, Mr. Stovell does with his brick building just to the north.   :)

^Give it back to Mr. Stovell who actually owns it?

I don't know if I like the new white windows. They seem to interrupt the horizontal lines of the building and make it look visually busy compared to the clean lines of the old black framed windows.

I tend to agree. This is the one aspect of the face lift that isn't a 100% improvement. Overall the look is much fresher, although, as you say, a bit "busier".

I've always felt that this was one of the most tragic zoning mistakes in Victoria. However, I do think the makeover has at least made the building look a lot better.

I don't know.  With the path around it, I think it's OK.

Certainly a huge improvement.  I've seen a couple of the interiors.  You would not believe how dated they look.

As part of the overhaul of the hotel, were the rooms not updated ?

A friend of mine's dad lived there owned a unit back in about 1986.  Not too bad!  It was before the two condos were built next to the Coast Hotel.  So it was pretty neat.  Can't remember how high up.
