Might have run into the same issue as the Brighouse United Church in Richmond, which is now looking for new financing because they no longer qualify for the BC Housing program due to the huge increase in construction costs...

All the permits are listed as On Hold and the Development Permit lapsed in March.

I also wonder if this particular developer, owing to their small size, was more exposed to the increase in construction costs (and labour shortages).
There's only one subsidized/affordable unit here in the approved plans, and I suspect that their new DP application (once they get financing) will likely be for 100% market rentals.

Huge tax savings if you do it that way, for sure.

A comment by an astute commentator back in 2016:
If a 6-story building could make it feasible to preserve/restore some or all of the old building then this option should be on the table.
I know, I know. Allowing a slightly taller building would threaten the heritage of the neighbourhood. Yadda yadda yadda.

Anyway, as a neighbourhood apartment building goes it seems fine, although I'm not digging that retaining wall/stairway on the one side there. It's just really too bad this needed to involve the wipeout of a heritage building.
I think I'd be very happy if the church were still there and this was being proposed for that weird little strip mall building on the opposite corner.

This project is among the first in our region to take advantage of the single egress stair design.
