You’d never be able to drive to your house if it wasn’t for expropriation over generations.

I’ll take that as an agreement that to build an 8 lane highway, from town to Langford, the government would need to take people’s private property and you think that’s ok.Any property alongside a highway or major road is at risk of being expropriated, that’s been the golden rule since we started building highways, and to make room for highways!

You benefit from land expropriation like everyone else does. Every time you drive out of your house, that’s thanks to someone else dedicating (giving up) private land for roads, or having their land expropriated. The best you can do is to be thankful that you have maintained roads to use.

Government doesn’t even fix my potholes so no…. Not maintained even.
If they started an 8 lane abomination it would cripple my access for a decade and in the end only allow for more cars to spill into alll the ancillary roads that are all at capacity now making this entire area a total gong show.

Although I think you’re sincere about the impact of construction on you. Yes it might suck for a bit, but if you are sincere in wanting to be a positive contributor to society then you’ll have to take your turn at the podium eventually. Or, you can proactively move and sell your property to someone who won’t mind.

It’s not only the construction…. You are trolling me. It’s taken me this long just to get you to acknowledge that land expropriation would need to happen.
This thing isn’t going to happen anyway.
I’m out.

It's taking them 3 years, or more, to widen the shoulder for a bus lane, can you just imagine how long 8 lanes would take?

Am I to read this as saying you'd be one of those directly impacted by said expropriation?
If yes, from what I gather they pay fair market value.
If no, why do you care?
As for the construction, I'd far rather be delayed by a construction project for the public benefit than by all the private for-profit construction projects currently screwing up our roads and sidewalks.

Another three years, presumably.

Which is a lot more than the market might pay. Not a lot of people jump for the opportunity to buy a home alongside a freeway.
There are properties trying to sell along Sooke’s new highway expansion and they’re stuck in the mud. One guy thinks his lot is worth $30 million and just perennially keeps it on MLS, I think, maybe, to justify that whatever the government paid him for a section of land they might have expropriated was worth millions more than what they paid him? I don’t know, but it’s an odd duck listing.
