That's actually a common condition among VV forumers.

Upgrade the darned park then.

Seems great, the volunteers are ready for the go-ahead.

and at least another $500,000 in maintenance every 20 years or so and the volunteers might not be around. You’re talking about a municipality that can’t afford to maintain it’s ancient sewer system

But the pathways at least need some gravel or wood chips the ruts just keep getting deeper, people walk to the side to keep out the mud and step on plants. Haven’t seen much increase in activity, maybe at Cattle Point. also at Cattle Point there’s a portable washroom that’s been there for the last couple years works pretty good for me

The District of North Saanich is working on how to stop pickleball players who flout posted hours of play at Wain Park, after plans fell through for a security firm to lock up the courts after hours.

In a May report, staff said pickleball has generated complaints about noise, parking and people playing after posted hours, which end at 4 p.m. on Sunday, 6 p.m. on Monday, Friday and Saturday, and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

^Soon the lack of daylight will make playing pickleball after hours a moot point.

Vegetation in Victoria is equally accessible to most, study shows

Compared to cities like Vancouver, Montreal, and Winnipeg, Victoria's plant life is much more evenly spread out across the city

https://www.capitald...ost-study-shows

I think studies like this might have some use. Not sure how much though.

But missing often is how many people actually take advantage of the green space. I’d guess that Manhattan residents are very low users of park space, yet their incomes are very high. Related?

Seniors are planning a rally Tuesday to call for a “senior-friendly” park at the former S.J. Willis Junior High School field, at the corner of Hillside Avenue and Blanshard Street.

The building on the site, a junior high school until 1983 and later an alternative learning facility, is the temporary home of Victoria High School while a new, seismically safe building is constructed at the school’s long-time home on Grant Street. The work is set for completion by next September.

Terry Dance-Bennink, a resident at the adjacent Wellesley retirement home on Blanshard Street, said the field is located in an area where there are several seniors’ facilities — the Ross Bay retirement home and Summit assisted-living facility are also nearby — but doesn’t get a lot of use.

A park for seniors would offer physical exercise, social interaction and nature appreciation, proponents said in a statement.

What's the point of new parks in CoV?  It'll just be taken over by the homeless full-time.

As Saanich calls on the public once more to help reshape its policy around pets in parks, one thing is clear from the first round of feedback: residents want more control over off-leash dogs.

The “People, Pets and Parks” strategy has been in the works since 2021, when Saanich Council voted to review policies and regulations governing domestic animals in the district’s parks, with dogs linked to the majority of reported incidents.

That may be why more than 1,800 people responded to a survey in the first phase of public engagement identifying key concerns faced by park users. Issue number one? Owners who are unable to maintain control over their off-leash dogs.

“A frequently mentioned reason was the lack of clarity on the definition of ‘under control,'” project consultant Lees and Associates wrote in a summary. “Owners’ lack of awareness and training skills were also mentioned. A large number of community members have had a conflict with an off-leash dog in Saanich, including having their dog attacked or approached aggressively by on off-leash dog.”

‘There should be a budget item for this park’: Burnside-Gorge hoping for Arbutus Park investment this year

Improvements to the park are overdue, say community advocates, and could be part of better access to the Gorge Waterway

Saanich awards $1.45 million Rutledge Park contract; playground upgrade, year-round washroom

The idea behind the renewal and a splash pad goes back to 1998.

Somehow I feel the 1998 splash pad user has different priorities now that they have got back to it 25 years later.
