Booooo, because that means they aren't planning on starting excavation for at least a few months (I guess).

That's exactly what I thought when I saw how "nicely" things had been put back together.  :(

Ya, looks good!

Yeah, it's a truly beautiful parking lot once again.

I think this is going to be yet another example of a building that looks much better in reality than in rendering.

Hopefully. Now let's see it get started!

Woah, I meant to put this comment in the Yello thread. Oops.

Then what the hell is taking so long? Rip up that ugly parking lot and get on with it.

It's the protected habitat of the endangered Subaru and we all know it's breeding season.

Maybe they're trying to figure out what to do with the Johnson Street tower?

Perhaps.

Chard does have a long history of not starting construction on their next project until their current project is in the final stages. We also know that there is an ongoing shortage of construction crews.

The first step will be site preps and blasting, which will likely take six-to-eight months. I'd like to say that once the crews finish up at Hudson Place this fall they'll move over to YoY.

Is Farmer the general contractor for both sites?

Western Grater is doing the excavation and blasting at Hudson Place, and they also did the same for Yello. Farmer is one of the contractors on Yello but they are not involved with Hudson Place.

This "Sugar Cube" condo building in Denver makes me think of the Yates on Yates. The blocky sections and the way the light and dark contrast.

Sort of a reverse YonY. I think I prefer the darker section on the bottom as opposed to the way Sugar Cube carried out the design. Also, it seems a bit unnecessary to section off a 10-storey building this way. It's the classic Victoria technique of trying to make buildings appear shorter than they actually are.

The Yates Street entrance to the parking lot was closed off again today... perhaps for additional soil testing?

They appear to be drilling and soil testing. They have made a hell of a mess all over their brand new pavement...

I don't understand why they bothered to repave it in the first place.

Have we seen this rendering showing the Yates Street tower in "full" context of the block (and a hint of the Johnson tower behind)?

I actually saw that rendering earlier today in a Vancouver Sun article discussing the revival of downtown Victoria:
