it was reported this guy was giving the free drinks and making the connections on shift at work and after closing time.  on premises.  then on top of that he lived in the same building.  hard for the owners not to connect some of those dots.

I believe this owner who took over was only an investor in the previous incarnation and not part of the operations at all.  I think he is just taking on the lease and trying to move on.

Restaurant industry needs to ‘step up’ to address ‘sexual violence pandemic’ in re-open, says advocate

May 26, 2021

As restaurants scramble to reopen indoor dining, some say there's another pandemic to worry about in those spaces. Kori Sidaway reports.

As the province returns to indoor dining, restaurants are dealing with a quick restart.

After weeks of severe economic impact, the scramble to hire staff is on. But many want to make sure the reopen is done safely.

“There is a sexual violence pandemic in Canada, and no corner of our society or community is immune to it,” said Stacey Forrester, co-founder of Good Night Out Vancouver, a non-profit society that deals with sexual harassment & assault in hospitality, music, arts & nightlife.

Hamilton Police have made an arrest related to the sexual assault allegations that stemmed from Chuck's:

Hamilton Police have arrested 41-year-old Jesse Chiavaroli for sexual assault after a lengthy investigation involving individuals linked to local Hamilton restaurants and bars.

As a result of information brought forward from the community, the Hamilton Police Sexual Assault Unit commenced an investigation into Jesse Chiavaroli. Investigators also worked closely with the Ontario Provincial Police and Niagara Regional Police Service after reports involving Chiavaroli were made in those areas.

On June 2, 2021, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Burnaby Detachment arrested Jesse Chiavaroli for six counts of sexual assault.

He was remanded into custody and transported back to Hamilton for a bail hearing today.

Chiavaroli is a former resident of Niagara and Hamilton. He worked in the restaurant and bar industry in downtown St. Catharines and Niagara Falls from 2009 - 2015.

Additionally, Jesse Chiavaroli worked in the restaurant and bar industry in Hamilton from 2015 - 2018.

Police believe there could be more victims. All survivors are encouraged to report these crimes to the Hamilton Police Service by contacting the Sexual Assault Unit (non-emergency line) at 905-540-5553 or www.hamiltonpolice.on.ca to file an online report.

In the Niagara Region you are asked to contact Constable Philip Gavin at 905-688-4111 Ext. 1009078. In the communities to which OPP police, please contact Constable Martin Hachey at 705-455-4321.

We want all survivors of sexual violence to know that we believe them and we will respect their choice in when they report an incident, where and how.

Anyone with information can also contact the Sexual Assault Unit, provide information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or submit anonymous tips online at www.crimestoppershamiIton.com.

Hip ‘designed to share’ restaurant opens doors in downtown Victoria

But Block Kitchen + Bar has no connection to predecessors Chuck’s Burger Bar or Lumberjack’s Bar and Grill

Order Up: Block Kitchen & Bar

Another new restaurant to showcase in this week’s Order Up. It’s the first expansion for a Banff restaurant, that’s taken over a location on lower Yates in Victoria. It opened a week ago, offering guests tapa-style plates with delicious cocktails. You’ll find Block Kitchen & Bar at 538 Yates Street.

There is no end to my dislike of those 1l plastic deli containers. That’s a trend I could never understand.

UVic just started an EcoBox program where they give you a plastic box (one piece, lid is hinged and snaps on the opposite side). Bring it back for a clean one, they wash the dirty one. 5 bucks. Basically free after 10 takeout meals.

I had an "EcoBox" way back in 1972. Of course when I started kindergarten, we just called it a lunch box and we had to wash it ourselves. And they say Gen-Xers don't care about the planet.

Five bucks is cheaper than a lunch box or Tupperware, so at least that part makes sense. I should go get 100 of them and start the same program here for $10. Easy money.
