if it could go a tad faster than a car ferry the added time would be less than 20 minutes from swartz bay. to-from nanaimo departure bay it'd be less than the current ferry time.

There were plans for a passenger ferry from the Iona jetty to Nanaimo 20 or more years ago.
Never got off the ground but there was a whole bunch of airport employees who were very keen on the idea.
There would have been shuttle service to the airport and transit.
On the down side, Nanaimo house prices would have jumped significantly.

Sales will begin at 11 a.m. and end a half-hour before docking. Minors are still permitted in the Pacific Buffet dining area during the pilot program of beer and wine sales.

Usually with alcohol it takes until the next morning for the sky to start to fall.

and the first beer has been served!...the sky has not yet fallen.
That probably won't happen until the first glass of wine has been consumed.

...Had the new Nashville hot chicken sandwich in the cafeteria. Took a long time, at least 10 people served before me so I was expecting it to be hot and fresh. Sure wasn’t...
This is one of the reasons I am willing to pay extra for the buffet. The food is fresher and the wait is practically nil. And now of course I can wash it down with a wee glass of wine.

I often do as well, especially the mid afternoon light buffet!...
Yeah that one is great.

Nothing wrong with any of these though adding a hoppier IPA would be good.Sounds like these are the alcohol options.

i know it's a pilot project but just two beers? there is probably not a single bar or restaurant in the entire province that only has two beer selections. surely the effort to have a couple more would not have been that great. we are only talking three ships here the equipment cost can't be that much.

On the 11 a.m. sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen, five drinks were sold on the way to Tsawwassen and nine drinks on the way to Swartz Bay, B.C. Ferries said. On the noon sailing to Tsawwassen from Swartz Bay, four beers and one glass of wine were sold, and on the return trip, three beers and five glasses of wine were sold.
