I don’t see what the issue is. Structural integrity just went up like 600%.

Until the ice buildup makes the ship top-heavy enough to capsize, I suppose... (no chance of such in this instance, but it's been known to happen in other situations)

The two new Island Class ferries should be arriving later today to Point Hope shipyard after having completed an over 10,000 nautical mile journey. The ETA is currently 4:30 PM but that timeline will likely slip.

They’re on a semi-submersible delivery ship, which will be re-submerged to allow both vessels to float off before being maneuvered by tug to berths at Point Hope.

They’re destined for the Powell River - Texada Island run, and the Port McNeill – Alert Bay – Sointula run.

BC Ferries says they are “…battery equipped ships designed for full electric operation. They are fitted with hybrid technology that bridges the gap until shore charging infrastructure becomes available.”

That semi-submersible is very cool.

You can track it here https://www.marinetr...ery:48.3/zoom:9

The vessel is called the 'Sun Rise' (of which there are several) - - this one is the 'heavy load carrier'

It seems the offloading from the submersible ship will happen at Ogden Point over the weekend and then the vessels towed to Point Hope.

Cool video of the loading here...

Two new BC Ferries hybrid-electric ships arrived in Victoria Saturday morning.

The Island Class vessels are battery-operated, but also have hybrid technology built in to operate them until more charging infrastructure and funding becomes available.

The ships were welcomed to their new home Saturday just after 11 a.m. as they arrived at the Breakwater District at Ogden Point. They left Romania on Nov. 20 on a semi-submersible transport vessel. They even passed through the Panama Canal on their journey to Victoria.

Note to the CoV: The ships arrived at the Ogden Point, unless of course they were offloaded to somewhere else in the "district".

It's certainly not tied up to the breakwater.
