That's understandable considering you have eight appendages and only one mouth. For you, wearing a mask is the much lesser evil.

it seems to me that bcf is well-equipped to take on debt to survive. that's what they should do. seems the ceo is charting a good course (no pun intended. really).

B.C. Ferries is struggling to stay afloat financially after the federal government failed to include the company in bailout funding for public transit agencies during the pandemic.
The ferry corporation said it is racking up debt as it absorbs steep losses due to ridership and revenue declines caused by reduced travel in recent months. B.C. Ferries has lost $130 million in revenue since the start of the pandemic in March, and its financial situation remains dire, CEO Mark Collins said in an interview.

BC Ferries is making masks mandatory starting on Monday (not just having them, but wearing them too). Terminals and on ships.
Unclear on if that's required if you stay in your car... how dumb would that be.

Common sense and mask edicts are rarely synonymous.

You don’t need to wear a mask if you stay in your car, but unclear if you need to should you roll down the windows...

It’s a busy day for BC Ferries passengers travelling from the Island to the Lower Mainland.
As of 1:30 p.m., there is a three sailing wait from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen with the 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. sailing all 100 per cent full.

How is it less safe to be in your car now than it will be as of September 30th?

You'll have to leave your car while onboard a ferry in B.C. starting Sept. 30. Transport Canada is putting back in place the restriction that prevents passengers from staying in their vehicles during sailings, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Bottom (closed) deck only, I guess, if same as before. If you're on deck 4 instead of 2, you can stay in your car.

It is less safe to be in your car on a closed deck to due evacuation requirements.
Changes that have occurred since this was temporarily allowed include masks required to be worn in all areas, additional space opening up for seating (Pacific Buffet, minus the food), more understanding of the virus and how it spreads, etc. Of course they pick a specific date, how do you enforce it otherwise?

If it's safe enough now it won't be any less safe in 3 weeks.

Transport Canada Rescinds Temporary Flexibility for Passengers to Remain on Enclosed Vehicle Decks as of Sept. 30
Affects Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen – Duke Point, Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands, Horseshoe Bay – Departure Bay and Comox – Powell River
As of Sept. 30, 2020, Transport Canada is rescinding the temporary flexibility it granted to ferry operators allowing passengers to remain in their vehicle on enclosed vehicle decks. Customers must leave enclosed vehicle decks on BC Ferries’ vessels as of Sept. 30.
Transport Canada granted this flexibility in the spring in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Sept. 30, BC Ferries will implement its procedures for the regulation on the following routes:
• Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay
• Tsawwassen – Duke Point
• Horseshoe Bay – Departure Bay
• Powell River – Comox
• Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands
BC Ferries has implemented a number of additional measures including additional cleaning, sanitization, physical distancing and mandatory wearing of face coverings while at the terminal and onboard the vessel. The company will also reopen certain areas of the vessels, such as the Pacific Buffet area on the Spirit Class vessels, for seating only, as a way to provide passengers more space for physical distancing. Buffet food service is not being reintroduced at this time.
BC Ferries must comply with Transport Canada regulations. Customers are legally required to comply with this federal regulation. We expect our customers to follow the law and we continue to have zero tolerance policy for abuse of any kind towards our employees. Failure to follow the direction of our crew or abuse towards an employee may result in denial of service and Transport Canada enforcement measures.

It’s the opposite, isn’t it?
A snowflake would cry about it. The boomers are saying get away from me.
I've seen an awful lot of crying from those being told to wear a mask.
