B.C. Ferry Services Inc. breached the collective agreement with its unionized employees when it temporarily laid off more than 1,000 workers in early April due to the pandemic, according to an arbitrator.

It is now up to the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers union and the company to come to an agreement for remediation.

How long has BCF had their mobile skin running? Itā€™s great. And finally the terminals identify the main city. Before tourists had to figure out what Swartz Bay and Horseshoe Bay meant.

It's not just a skin. Total website redesign. Covered extensively in local media when it switched over on September 22nd.

whacking of the ropes by dozens of men with axes does not seem like the most high tech operation.

It is indeed a ship launching tradition. And if I was allowed to deliver a final report to the client in the same fashion you can bet your bottom dollar I would be.

it's just that I don't see any women, POC, disabled or LGBTQ2+ people helping cut those ropes.

Isn't Romania looking at this contract through an equity lens?  :rtfm:

Iā€™m expecting the Crofton Vesuvius route to go down too if the wind is as bad as they say itā€™s going to be which means only one way off SSI this morning, and me working the breakfast line...

One person has been seriously injured after a vehicle went off a loading ramp at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, plunging approximately 30 feet to the pavement below.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, during what a B.C. Ferries spokesperson called a ā€œroutine dischargeā€ of a Nanaimo-to-Tsawwassen sailing.

yikes.

i'm not even sure how you get to a position where you can fall from a ramp to the pavement.  i thought all permanent ramps were hard fixed to the moving ramps to the boats.

although there seems to be lots of broken concrete there.  maybe they just broke right through the wall somehow.

^ that is what leaving the ferry at Tsawwassen normally looks like.

From the link above: ā€œThe last vehicle to be unloaded off the upper car deck drove off the ship, accelerated rapidly and smashed through a concrete wall,ā€ said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall. ā€œThe vehicle fell approximately 30 feet to the lower holding compound of the terminal, landing on its roof. ā€
