Has this project been shelved?  It shows as 'archived' on the city's dev tracker, and we haven't heard about it for a long time.

IIRC, the adjacent 'taller' development at 930 Fort was approved by council...

I believe that means the proposal process is over, and the dev tracker account for that project archived.

Since this View Street project never received formal approval before getting archived, can we assume that it's cancelled (though the developer may come forward with a different proposal)?

Oh geez, I see what you mean. I mistook it as 930 Fort.

Yes, you might be right. I’ll try to get more info.

not sure if its been mentioned but earlier in 2018 Gordon Nelson acquired everything to the east of 937 View Street on the northern side of the block. Not a bad assembly but heard there is contamination on the corner two parcels.

How is Gordon Nelson developing this - aren't they a Property Manager?

Gordon Nelson's website mentions their acquisition of this site a while back:  http://www.gordonnel...ments/937-view/ .

However, some of the information on their site is a little bit out of date. The developer filed for a new development variance permit earlier this month (October 10):

  • Unit count has increased to 255 (all rental)
  • Height has increased to 15 storeys (mods: alas, another update is required in the description)
  • Geotechnical challenges mean that modular construction methods will be used

This revised proposal will make it the largest rental development (by unit count) in Harris Green in recent memory as it exceeds Townline's proposal for the SDA church site and the new Cox development on the site of the former funeral home (McCall's).

Here's a rendering:

That is huge in terms of unit amount.

The previous proposal called for 231-units, which itself was an increase from an initial 215-units.

Anything that obscures more of View Towers is a good thing.

looks like about 664 units/acre, or 1641 units/hectare. for comparison, yello is about 322 units/acre or 795/hectare

Semi-related: does anyone have pics of what suites in View Tower look like? I’m imagining some sort of disaster zone in my head but that’s because it’s impossible to Google anything up! Even the 5 listings on CL only show the outside. Does it have a parkade? Where do people park (or is it so low rent there is no parking?)? I know it’s singularly ugly from outside and that flaming couch story long time Victorians tell me is apparently legit, and it seems to be a super sketchy building just from the general inability to find any info on the rentals, but as they always say, pics!!!

And to be on topic, yay more buildings. Pity every UVic student living north of this who takes the 14/15 because this building will be full of students.

View Towers has been updating its suites since the fire some five or six years ago. There’s well over 300 of them.

We have a View Towers thread but most of the interior pics are broken now. I compiled some mentions of View Towers in the news here...

The design has now been revised and, alas, I don't think it's an improvement.

In addition to the rendering, you can find the developer's feedback and rationale here:  https://tender.victo...809111720510000

View Towers without balconies. Here's what was proposed as recently as last fall.
