Lyft, which revealed its pricing scheme in December, charges a $2.50 base and a $2.50 service fee as well as additional charges of $0.65 per kilometre and $0.33 per minute.
(uber) Costs include a $2.50 base fare and a $2 booking fee as well as additional charges of $0.70 per km and $0.33 per min.
So while Uber’s booking fee is $0.50 less than Lyft’s comparable service fee, the latter charges $0.05 less per kilometre travelled.
Taxis based in Vancouver, meanwhile, have a different pricing structure where they must charge standard rates.
That includes a $3.25 flag rate, a $1.88 charge per kilometre and a $33.55 charge per hour (or what would amount to about $0.56 per minute).
A 22-minute ride from Mount Pleasant to Metrotown that would cost $18.44 with Uber would cost an estimated $36.25 with a Vancouver taxi.

I took an Uber in Vancouver today. The price was a bit cheaper than a cab, but not majorly cheaper as far as I could tell. On the other hand, we needed a large vehicle and that was easily obtained with Uber. When we called a cab company they said it would be "a while" until we could get a minivan. Overall it was a very positive experience.
I’m glad we finally have the option.

Depends if Delta has issued a business license yet. AFAIK, only Vancouver has licensed Uber and Lyft, so they cannot pick up rides outside Vancouver.
OK so I spoke too soon. Lyft has received various business licenses, Uber has basically said they are comfortable operating without a license outside of Vancouver until the inter-municipal license becomes available.
YVR was on the ball and already had their ride hailing signage made earlier, as it was posted this morning. BC Ferries is simply using the existing drop-off and pick-up areas for passenger vehicles.

The map indicates Uber will not go all the way into South Delta, cutting off before Tsawwassen, and will not cover all of West Vancouver - this means you cannot use Uber to and from either BC Ferries terminal. Cities such as Langley and White Rock are left out entirely. And while Surrey mayor Doug McCallum vowed to keep ride-hailing out of his city, Uber's service map includes a large portion of Surrey - but not all of it.

Lyft doesn’t operate in the area yet, so we weren’t able to try.
There clearly are not many Uber drivers yet, as while waiting at the hotel the pickup time changed over and over again - 3 minutes, 20, 12, 18, 4 etc. It finally came, the driver was at home when he got the offer and came to get us. He was an off duty taxi driver so had lots of questions!
After the show, Uber was a write off. Nothing available, no drivers, at 11 pm on a Saturday night near a concert venue and Dine Out Vancouver, a busy night. We took taxis around for the remainder of our evening adventure as they were plentiful and we were only doing short hops around the core.
We did drive over so paid for parking at the hotel - shocked to see a 24% trans link tax on the parking, and GST on top of the tax!
Matt.

Honestly, more often than not we take public transit over and floatplane back, but the weather forecast was terrible and we didn’t want to chance it. Turns out it was pretty nice.

Next time park at a parkade.
You get that 24% "parking sales tax" everywhere, but yes the EasyPark parkades likely would have been cheaper, especially over the weekend. Even the one right at Waterfront Station is only like $10/day on weekends.

Uber and Lyft could be off the road as soon as next Tuesday if the Supreme Court of B.C. agrees to issue an injunction in favour of the Vancouver Taxi Association.
Association lawyer Peter Gall said the court would be asked on Feb. 4 to issue an injunction against the Passenger Transportation Board’s ride-hailing rules, while the court reviews a legal petition filed by the association on Monday.
Gall said the association believed the regulatory board has given ride-hail companies an advantage over taxi companies by — among other things — not imposing any fleet-size restrictions.
He said the board is not allowed to issue any licence unless “it promotes sound economic conditions.”
“The Passenger Transportation Board has to determine in advance what the impact will be on issuing licences on different terms than taxis,” Gall said. “Taxis are saying we are restricted as to numbers, we are restricted as to price.”

Kabu approved for Victoria.

Bulletin from the RTB here: https://www.ptboard....07_Bulletin.pdf
Kabu approved across the province, AptRides approved in the lower mainland. InOrbis and TAPPcar were refused, and had proposed service in the CRD.

A note that Kabu has been operating in Richmond for a while now, and primarily serves the Mandarin-speaking market

Makes sense. It’s so easy. When I was last in Vegas I used Uber so much I forgot how many times I had used it ...until the credit card bill arrived, lol.

for sure it’s easy and fun but you can’t claim ignorance abut the fees.

sanity has prevailed in surrey.
The mayor of the Metro Vancouver city of Surrey has stood down in his fight against ride-hailing, saying it's "time to move on" after a judge ordered the city to stop ticketing Uber drivers.
Mayor Doug McCallum has resisted ride-hailing because he says the companies hold unfair advantages over the taxi industry, and the city began handing $500 tickets to Uber drivers shortly after the service started.
