And the businesses won't be making insurance claims as if they do then their premiums will skyrocket or they will be denied insurance when it comes up for renewal.
Business property insurance in the downtown core is expensive.
If most downtown businesses are similar to my own, they keep their premiums affordable by choosing the property damage deduction to be between $5000,00 and $10,000.00 ... and simply hoping for the best.
All this really means is most downtown property damage (except the most egregious) is paid "straight out of the till", as the insurance deduction is almost always more than the cost to repair the damage.
Add in spanky123's note above, and you realize that the property damage that occurs all over the downtown core every night is essentially a direct drain on a small businesses daily cash flow.
Council doesn't care.
VicPD doesn't care.
The insurance company isn't involved.
It's all on the small business owner, many of whom only gross between $400.00 and $800.00 per day (and some less than that).
