My daughter graduated from Vic High. It was pretty good then. That was when it was just grade 11 and 12. It went downhill when the lower grades were added, so I hear.

Youth Drug Trafficking Investigation Leads to Arrests

May 15, 2025

On April 29, 2025, the Saanich Police Department’s Street Crime Unit (SCU) began an investigation into allegations that a youth was trafficking illegal drugs to other youths in group homes and detox centres in the Capital Region.

On May 6, 2025, with the assistance of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), SCU officers arrested two males, aged 16 and 17 at the time, in connection with this investigation. At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of approximately seventeen grams of suspected fentanyl, some of which was pre-bagged for individual sales, approximately three grams of suspected methamphetamine, and approximately twenty-seven grams of cannabis.

Our investigation into this matter continues and investigators will be recommending to Crown that both youths be charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

They have been released from custody with conditions, and both have a future court date.

Pretty sad, right? Not even the kids in detox are safe from traffickers. And kids trafficking the drugs, to boot.

Know it all.

This one sounds a bit dramatic, but can't find anything from RCMP or Island media:

Mohamed Omar, who was found guilty last year for the second-degree murder of John Dickinson, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with no eligibility for parole for 13 years.

At the trial, eyewitnesses testified that on March 1, 2022, Omar and 29-year-old Dickinson were involved in an altercation that began as a verbal dispute. According to the testimony, Dickinson then physically engaged with Omar, placing his hands on him and leading him toward the exit of Lucky Bar, a nightclub located on Yates Street.

One security guard escorted Omar out of the bar, and a second guard kept him outside while the first talked with Dickinson. The guard noted during the trial that Omar seemed “calm but focused,” and muttered under his breath, “I’m going to **** this guy up.”

"Mr. Omar went back into the bar briefly, had another verbal exchange with Mr. Dickinson, and then left. When Mr. Dickinson and his girlfriend exited shortly after that, Mr. Dickinson saw Mr. Omar, yelled at him, and rushed at him. The two of them tussled and then tripped or fell with Mr. Dickinson on top,” noted the decision, written by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Saunders.

The two security guards attempted to intervene, but while they were both down, Omar stabbed Dickinson twice in the torso, trisecting his aorta and mesenteric artery, resulting in “massive blood loss.”

According to psychiatric and psychological assessment reports, along with an Impact of Race and Culture Assessment Report (IRCA), Omar was born in Toronto to Somali immigrant parents, though his dad died before he was born.

"Mr. Omar's mother no doubt would have been traumatized by the events of the Somali Civil War and the circumstances that led to both his parents becoming refugees. In this respect, Mr. Omar may have suffered what is termed intergenerational trauma,” noted Saunders.

Omar – who is Black and a Muslim – also suffered from bullying and racism as a child, and witnessed racist micro-aggressions directed at his mother, which made him feel ostracized due to his race and religion, according to the IRCA.

[…]

In 2022, he was arrested and charged with a “serious, violent crime”– charges that are still before the courts. He was released from custody on orders to observe a curfew by being in his residence between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., refraining from possessing or consuming alcohol or drugs, and not being in possession of any weapons, including knives.

Six days after his release, he murdered Dickinson while under those orders.

Life in prison with parole eligibility in 13 years? Why bother with the life sentence?

https://en.m.wikiped...nment_in_Canada

Life imprisonment in Canada always includes eligibility for parole after 25 years. So we don’t really have a “life in prison” sentence. Unless it’s multiple murders and the sentences are consecutive.

Strike Force Seizes Loaded Handgun, Kilogram of Fentanyl In Supportive Housing Facility

Date: May 20, 2025 - File: #25-17418

Victoria, B.C. – VicPD’s Strike Force, with assistance from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), executed a warrant at a supportive housing facility in the 400-block of Swift Street last week, resulting in the seizure of one kilogram of fentanyl, a loaded nine-millimeter handgun and approximately $40,000 in cash. One man was arrested and remains in custody.

Earlier this month, Strike Force initiated a drug trafficking investigation into a suspected drug dealer. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence in the 400-block of Swift Street. Just after 6:30 p.m. on May 14, the warrant was executed by GVERT and VicPD Patrol officers. The sole occupant, a 62-year-old male, was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking and outstanding warrants for previous files in both Victoria and Saanich. He was transported to VicPD cells and is being held in custody for court.

A Loaded Handgun, Kilogram of Fentanyl and Approximately $40,000 in Cash were Seized During the Arrest

“This seizure underscores the real dangers posed by individuals involved in drug trafficking, and the impact it has on our community,” said Chief Del Manak. “To have firearms and significant quantities of Fentanyl present within a facility designed to support the most vulnerable in our community is particularly concerning. Our Strike Force officers demonstrated exceptional expertise in identifying and dismantling this threat, and their work is vital to keeping our community safe.”

As the investigation is ongoing, further details are not available at this time.

The body discovered in the mobile home last week was indeed that of a man who went missing last spring and was last seen in that very area.

From the RCMP:

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the body of missing person Kielan Hall, was located by police during the execution of a search warrant at a leased home within a mobile home park, located on Songhees Reserve lands.

The original search warrant was in relation to Drug Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. However, the discovery of human remains lead police to execute an additional search warrant on the same property.

Since the discovery, investigators have been able to confirm the identity of the human remains as being missing person Kielan Hall.

The circumstances surrounding Kielan Hall’s death are being investigated by Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU). As this is an ongoing investigation no further details will be released at this time.

If you have any information regarding this investigation please contact VIIMCU by calling their information line at 250-380-6211.

West Shore RCMP extends its condolences to Kielan Hall’s family and friends during this difficult time.

^^^^^ According to Dr. Google, a kilo of fentanyl can kill 500,000 people.

Handle with care.
