A 46-year-old father killed in Vaughan, Ont., was shot dead in front of his wife and children after he tried to protect them during a home invasion Sunday morning.

“This innocent man got his doors kicked in in the middle of the night, four people went in there — his three kids are there, his wife — had a gun to one of the kids, he went to protect them and these scumbags shot him right in front of his kids, shot him dead, twice,” Ontario Premier Doug Ford told reporters Tuesday afternoon.

Ford took it further in his Tuesday press conference, promising “to be all over the federal government” on bail reform and strengthening the criminal code with respect to mandatory sentences.

“These weak-kneed judges let these people out on bail, not once, not twice, not three times, four and five times, just to go repeat the crime,” Ford said. “There’s no consequences at all for these people.

“Watch, when they catch these guys, I almost guarantee you they’ve been out on bail for another heinous crime.”

Via West Shore RCMP:

On August 30, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., West Shore RCMP Frontline Officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on Ocean Boulevard in Colwood. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a black Mazda CX-5. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, committing several dangerous motor vehicle infractions in the process.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver, a 43-year-old Victoria man.

The driver was issued multiple violation tickets totaling over $1,000 in fines and 16 driver penalty points, including:

Excessive Speed – $483 fine, 3 points;
Crossing a Solid Double Line – $109 fine, 3 points;
Failing to Stop for Police – $144 fine, 3 points;
Failing to Take Proper Precautions for Vulnerable Road Users – $109 fine, 3 points;
Illegal Pass on a Lane Roadway – $109 fine, 2 points;
Unsafe U-Turn – $121 fine, 2 points.
In addition, the vehicle was impounded, and a notice was served for stunting and excessive speed.

“This driver’s reckless actions put themselves, our officers, and members of the public at significant risk,” says Cpl. Mike Jacobson of the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit. “We want to remind motorists that failing to stop for police is a serious offence, and the consequences can include Criminal Code charges, fines, points on your license, and possibly losing your vehicle.”

If the extra time allowed him to sober up enough to avoid blowing a DUI, then sadly the driver made a good call, and will probably pull the same stunt again next time he’s drunk driving. Sad.

True. Although there’s zero indication of any impairment here. Except initial reports well before any police interaction.

After a nine-month trial, Scott Matheson was found not criminally responsible due to mental disorder on a charge of second-degree murder in the 2021 killing of his 64-year-old neighbour, Robert Dobronay.

In his concluding statement, Justice Geoffrey Gaul determined that Matheson operated “under the delusion” that Dobronay was poisoning him and that his life was in danger.

Gaul said he was “satisfied,” after considering all the evidence, that the defence of mental disorder had been established.

That's awful quick on a graffiti file.

Maybe let us see the entire image so we can get a better understanding of who the perpetrator might be?    :teacher:
