A couple from the United States is facing international kidnapping charges after prosecutors claimed they took a 10-year-old child to Cuba to potentially undergo gender transition surgery, allegedly deceiving the child's biological mother with a Canadian camping trip as cover story.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Justice Department said Rose Inessa-Ethington, 42, and Blue Inessa-Ethington, 32, were arrested and charged after Trump administration took the rare step of sending a government plane to bring the child back from Havana on Monday.

"The pair is accused of allegedly skipping out on a planned camping trip to Canada with a shared custody child and instead took the 10-year-old to Havana, Cuba, without the biological mother’s knowledge or court approval," the statement read.

The mastermind behind B.C.'s most notorious gang killing has been released after completing his prison sentence for conspiracy to commit murder.

Former Red Scorpions gang leader Jamie Bacon was sentenced to 18 years in prison in September 2020 for his role in the so-called "Surrey Six" murders in 2007.

After credit for time served in pre-trial custody, the sentence amounted to an additional five years and seven months.

Nanaimo drug bust results in guilty pleas, primary accused faces lengthy jail sentence

Apr 30, 2026

NANAIMO — Guilty pleas cancelled a pending Supreme Court trial following a hi-profile drug & weapons bust w/arrests made at a local overdose prevention site.

Gerid James Gregory-Allen & Sara Lynn Koshman both pleaded guilty to their roles in a drugs & weapons bust at the Nanaimo OD Prevention site on Albert St. on Sept. 12, 2024.

Gregory-Allen pleaded guilty to 9 charges. Koshman pled guilty to a pair of trafficking charges.

Screenshot 2026-05-01 17.27.14.png
Gerid James Gregory-Allen

Gregory-Allen’s backpack contained ~225 gr of meth, 80 gr crack, 40+ gr fentanyl, bear spray, phones, a scale & a key to the Castaway Motel on Terminal Ave. He also had a collapsible baton, brass knuckles, a knife & ~$640.

Koshman’s backpack contained just over 7 gr of crack, 1.5 gr fentanyl, opioid pills, brass knuckles, bear spray, drug pipes, & $320. A loaded 3D printed firearm also found in Koshman’s backpack; however, the weapon with five bullets belonged to Gregory-Allen.

A joint submission has been agreed upon, amounting to a 10-yr prison sentence. Gregory-Allen has been i/c since the offence date. Koshman, w/no prior record, attended proceedings from a treatment centre.

House arrest not enough for Saanich man who sexually assaulted family members

A sentence of nearly 2 yrs to be served on house arrest (& 3 yrs probation) is not enough for a man who sexually assaulted 5 of his family members when they were children, his sister says.

Jeannette Drinkrow said she’s glad the more than 5-yr court process has finally come to an end with the sentencing of her brother, 78-y/o George Pearse, but she is disappointed he won’t serve time in jail.

Pearse did not attend his hearing Fri and had to be arrested & brought to the courthouse by police.

Pearse is allowed out of his home between 1000-1300 on Mon & Fri. He is allowed to leave at other times w/written permission or if going directly to a health-care facility for an emergency.

As Justice Saunders was leaving court after pronouncing sentence, Pearse asked if he could appeal. The judge made no response.

George Stephen Pearse
Drinkrow said she was happy the process is over, as they first went to the police between 2020 and 2021, however she has a hard time reconciling with a seemingly light sentence.

“I realize that halfway through the court procedure, George developed some health issues and is getting a lighter sentence because of it. I want to be okay with this. I’m trying, but I am not. House arrest for someone who is a prolific pedophile [and] is guilty of sickening crimes against children, some from preschool age to puberty, is wrong. He deserves to go to jail, regardless of his health,” she noted.

Quite frankly jail doesn’t want a tough medical case.

His house arrest restrictions are quite strict.
