Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged theft of vehicle and related fraud offences that occurred earlier this month. 36-year-old Jessie Savidant has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Theft of Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 333.1(1)
Possession of stolen property over $5000, contrary to section 355(a)
Use of a stolen credit card, contrary to section 342(1)©
Breach of a probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1)

Savidant was remanded into police custody and is awaiting a bail hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 15, 2026, in Nanaimo.

The investigation began on May 6, 2026, when police received a report of a stolen Honda Civic, taken overnight from a secured underground parking garage on Barsby Avenue.

The following day, a separate report was received regarding a stolen licence plate, later linked to the stolen vehicle. During the investigation, investigators were able to determine that the stolen vehicle was associated to the use of a stolen credit card at a Ladysmith business, and a primary suspect was identified.

Several days later, the stolen Honda Civic was recovered abandoned in a downtown Nanaimo parking lot.

On May 16, 2026, Savidant was located and arrested without incident. At the time of his arrest, he was breaching an existing probation order.

Nanaimo RCMP note an increase in vehicle thefts in recent months. Owners are reminded to lock vehicles, avoid leaving valuables or spare keys inside, park in well-lit areas, and report suspicious activity promptly to reduce the risk of theft. If you have information on individuals involved in vehicle thefts, please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

He should be asking for a lot more than $6k to start with. Replacing a work truck plus mowers, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, etc is gonna cost $10k bare minimum.

I hope the community will rally around this guy to help him out.

He is one of those rare addicts who got appropriate treatment and made something of himself. The community should support him wholeheartedly.

Up-Island Car Crime

A brazen theft caught on camera in Nanaimo – an auto-repair shop in the city’s N end was the target of an overnight robbery - a thief smashed through a garage door to steal a vehicle.

A day earlier in Parksville, a truck smashed into a wall, breaking the front window, to gain access to a jewelry store on Morrison Ave. What happened inside the store was captured on video surveillance.

Both B&E's, involving stolen vehicles, come on the heels of 2 other stolen vehicles dumped in Nanaimo. An SUV was found in Long Lk Fri morning, then Mon morning a car was discovered in Westwood Lk.

“We’ve never quite seen this before. 2 incidences unrelated of stolen cars ending up in different lakes within 2 or 3 days,” said RCMP's O’Brien.

Police seize weapons and cash following suspicious vehicle report in Courtenay

On April 30, 2026, at approximately 12:29 p.m., Comox Valley RCMP responded to a report of two individuals believed to be using drugs in a vehicle parked at the Aquatic Centre parking lot in Courtenay.

Frontline officers attended and located a vehicle with a male driver found to be in and out of consciousness behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition. A female associated to the vehicle was also observed displaying signs consistent with drug impairment. Officers arrested both individuals for possession of a controlled substance and the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

As part of the investigation, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and seized:
• 10 knives
• 11 cellular phones
• A digital scale with suspected drug residue
• Approximately $2,000 in cash
• Two imitation handguns
• An expandable baton

“This is another example of how a call from the public can quickly lead to the removal of potential risks from our community,” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“Impaired driving, weapons, and suspected drug activity create serious safety concerns, and we appreciate community members who continue to report suspicious behaviour when they see it.”
Police note that the imitation handguns seized during the investigation closely resembled real firearms.

“Imitation firearms, and similar looking items, are something police encounter far too often, and they can rapidly escalate already high-risk situations,” said Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP. “To the public, and to police responding in real time, these weapons can appear to be genuine firearms. Decisions involving weapons are made in seconds, which is why incidents involving replica guns carry very serious potential consequences.”

Often, investigations involving drug impairment, weapons, and controlled substances are complex and may require additional analysis, consultation, and follow-up before charge recommendations are finalized.

“Not every successful police intervention immediately results in charges, but there is still tremendous value in preventing harm before it occurs,” said Cst. Monika Terragni. “In this case, the investigation has already resulted in the removal of multiple weapons, imitation firearms, and an impaired driver from a public area frequented by families and youth.”

The investigation remains ongoing and appropriate criminal charges will be recommended.

June 4, 2026 - Cobble Hill, British Columbia
From: Shawnigan Lake RCMP

File: IDGIS 2024-138

A suspect has been arrested and charged as a result of an investigation into a sexual assault on an elderly woman in Cobble Hill, BC in July 2024.

Background

On July 23, 2024, just after 9:00 p.m., Shawnigan Lake RCMP responded to the area of Carlton Dr after receiving a report

that an elderly woman had been sexually assaulted after an unknown man entered her home.

The RCMP Police Dog Service initially attended the area alongside frontline officers but could not track the suspect. The Island District General Investigation Section, assisted by the Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Section and Shawnigan Lake RCMP were involved in the investigation.

“The investigation reached a culmination point as a suspect was eventually identified through forensic evidence analysis”, said Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.

Update

On June 1, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges against a 17-year-old suspect for break and enter and commit an indictable offence, a sexual assault, and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence. The suspect’s whereabouts was unknown and therefore a warrant for his arrest was issued. The suspect was eventually arrested on June 3, 2026, and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

“The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits us from naming the suspect. Given the matter is now before the court, we will not be providing further details about this investigation”, Corporal Alex Bérubé adds.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514.
