Not sure if this is the right thread, but I didn't see tent city anywhere else...

Perhaps not outright crimes, but things aren't exactly rosy at Nanaimo's tent city.

Some kind of an incident went down last night past midnight on Bay at Quadra. Details are coming in that a serious assault occurred, but police haven’t released any info.

A "sudden death" is being investigated at Pioneer Park.

Driving by there this morning, by Pioneer Park, a police car came speeding out from within the park, then about an  hour later we passed by again and a lot of yellow tape was set up. Police car turned left from Quadra up Burdett (which the average person can't do), then proceeded rather swiftly, turning left on Vancouver to drive up past Mt. Edwards.

There was also a report of a baseball bat to the head assault on Wark and Bay yesterday night (per What the hell just happened FB page)

Strange, a few days ago there was some sort of incident at Quadra near Bay. Plainclothes cops keeping an eye out and lots of VicPD and Saanich cops around too.

Ok, Wark and Quadra at Bay sounds like a different incident then. Yes I had heard it involved an object.

Is it normal procedure for the major crime unit to investigate a “sudden death” (whatever that means)?

In downtown Victoria, in 2018 ... if an 80 year old senior citizen were to die a natural death in their home, it may bring the coroner, and perhaps one police officer, who would arrive without lights or siren, and leave shortly after arriving.

If that same person were to die of natural causes while out for a walk, because of the tenor of the city in 2018, the assumption would be that it was a possible murder ... because assaults and murders are what seem to regularly occur in downtown Victoria in 2018.

That the major crimes unit is investigating the body in Pioneer Park may mean nothing other than it's business as usual in downtown Victoria, with murder simply being assumption #1 ... or it may indeed mean that this senior citizen was murdered while out for a walk.

Unfortunately, it won't make any difference ... as Victorians have become immune to this sort of story, and the amateurs on Victoria City Council and those that manage the VicPD don't seem to have the knowledge or the wherewithal to deal with any of the criminal activity currently taking place in the downtown core.

Love him or hate him... this is something that I think makes sense.... we have witnessed our police forces get weakened to a point where they command no respect, which in turn, puts their safety at risk - and brings in lawlessness and decreased safety for the population at large.

I hope this marks the start of a new trend away from police trying to act as social workers, and back to law enforcement - equally, no matter who the perpetrator is. I notice that he is consulting police services for the reforms too. He would get my vote based on this.

“Saying sweeping reforms brought in by the Liberal government “hurt policing efforts,” Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government postponed the implementation of the Ontario Special Investigations Unit Act — one day before the law strengthening police oversight was to come into effect.“
...
““We believe that the previous government’s Bill 175 hurts policing efforts in the province and undermines confidence in the police,” he said. “Law-abiding people in this province should never feel unsafe when dealing with the people who protect us. And Ontario’s hard-working police officers deserve to be treated with respect.””

I remember a couple of years ago, a body was found in Beacon Hill park, and it was just declared a natural death within hours and that was that. Not sure why this one, which “shouldn’t concern anyone” according to the police, is involving major crimes unit. Wasn’t there another body found in Esquimalt from “sudden death” just a few days ago too? I don’t think this one got MCU involvement either. I could be wrong... also, why are they not releasing any info on this?

And people wonder why Doug Fords and Donald Trumps get elected.

Well, this suggests the guesses might have been on-the-money:

"The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is assisting the RCMP with the investigation into the homicides of Ryan Daley and Dan Archbald, two men found dead in Ucluelet after a sailing trip from Panama."

The man who was recently injured outside of the Ministry of Health building by a naked man who may have been high on drugs suffered quite significant injuries requiring reconstructive surgery, according to a coworker.

He is also believed to be a third assault victim from the Ministry. The first victim who works at the Ministry was struck outside the building by the “hockey stick attacker” who later went on a rampage injuring multiple people, the second was the man attacked by a naked assailant, and the third I don’t have details on but an employee of the Ministry made mention of another coworker having been assaulted.

Of course, no correlation will be drawn with the addition of low barrier housing a few blocks from there, and the complete lawlessness afforded to its tax payer funded residents. No... nothing to see here...
