I can’t help but think there’s far more at play here. You’ve got 20% of the criminal element responsible for 80% of criminal activity and somehow we can’t get a handle on the situation. Why is that?

At about 11pm on July 18, 2019, a 31 year old woman was walking home through Rutledge Park when an unknown man wrapped his arms around her upper body from behind. The man didn’t say anything and released the woman when she kicked her leg back towards him. The man immediately fled the park towards Cloverdale Avenue.
The woman remained in the park until police arrived, including a K9 team, and searched the area. The man was not located though.
The woman was physically uninjured and has since been supported by Victim Services.
Despite efforts by police, the man remains unidentified. He is described as being Caucasian, 6’0” to 6’3”, skinny, with messy hair and scruffy facial hair. He was wearing dark pants and a Mexican style knit blanket sweater with black and grey stripes.

I don't know if it's on the rise or just women not taking this BS any more and fighting back and reporting it.

Right, that could be it. Maybe with metoo the prevalence of these reports is likelier to materialize.I don't know if it's on the rise or just women not taking this BS any more and fighting back and reporting it.
Of course, the other crime here is police did not ask for assistance for FIVE WEEKS. What the heck.

July 18th? Why the delay in asking for the public's assistance? Someone might have remembered seeing the suspect in the mexican blanket sweater getup a day or two later but a month later is a real stretch.

[A security cam image of a young couple was in this spot, along with an explanation from a restaurant employee alleging they stole a phone belonging to Alfred the Flower Man. I've deleted the image for privacy reasons pending further information from police]

Oh oh. They might want to have the police release this on their behalf. This may not end well if it turns out they didn't steal the phone, there was a misunderstanding or they accidentally took his phone thinking it was theirs.

I can’t wait for tomorrow’s social media posts.
You know if you were a little sweeter... and no complimenting the excellent police work that I’ve seen around our community is not a bribe.

On Saturday, August 17, 2019, just before 9am, Saanich Police responded to a report of a man laying unresponsive outside a home at the intersection of Crease Avenue and Wascana Street.
The man was confirmed to be deceased by emergency personnel and due to the nature of his injuries, his death is suspicious.
The area around where the man was discovered has been cordoned off and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has taken over conduct of the investigation. They will be working closely with detectives from the Saanich Police General Investigative Section and Forensic Identification Section, other specialized units from across the region, and the BC Coroners Service over the coming days.
The investigation is in its early stages as investigators continue to work to confirm the man’s identity and his cause of death. It is expected that officers will be in the area, with it cordoned off, until sometime tomorrow.
“This is a residential area, close to several businesses, the Galloping Goose Trail and the Trans Canada Highway. It is very likely that someone from the area or passing through, saw something of value to this investigation. If you were in the area between 6am and 9am yesterday morning, we want to hear from you. Additionally if you were driving through at that time and have dash cam video, we would like to view it” said Sgt. Julie Fast, Public Information Officer for the Saanich Police.
VIIMCU’s Information Line is 250-380-6211, or to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
