Police say businesses should be aware of making change after a plague of fraud on the West Shore.
RCMP are currently investigating three separate reports of fraud at West Shore businesses from Nov 16 to 26.
A man pays with a $50 bill and when the cashier gives the change back to the suspect, he makes several requests for different denominations.
After several minutes of confusing the cashiers by handing the money back and forth, asking for different denominations, the suspect leaves with more money than he is owed. Victoria Police Department is also investigating a similar fraud. Police say businesses should be aware of making change after a plague of fraud on the West Shore.
it's actually quite unclear to me if anyone is actually committing a crime here. yes the perp is using some form of trickery or deceit but i'm not sure it's criminal.

Upon returning home, the resident realized the jewelry was not gold, because it was magnetic. The resident also discovered reports of the same scam in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Langley, Merritt, Kamloops and Regina, Sask. Police said the suspect tried the same scam on someone else in the area an hour later, but was unsuccessful. The suspect drove a dark Chrysler SUV.

saanich police provided no description of the suspect? i wonder why. no i don't. it's because he is middle-eastern or pretends to be.
As for a description of the couple, Dan said they are told the couple have accents and are possibly Middle Eastern, or pretending to be. One customer said the man involved in the scam even gave him a business card saying he was a used car salesman from Montreal, with the name Ali Mohammed on it.

Police are warning Kamloops residents about a jewelry scam targeting pedestrians.
RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said two men, described only as South Asian, have been approaching people in public and offering to sell gold rings for $60. When the rings are appraised, they have been found to be worthless.

A local man known to police to be violent and who had outstanding warrants issued for his arrest for failing to attend court yesterday in Victoria, was arrested by the Saanich Police late last night.
Just before 11:00 p.m. Saanich Police were called to the 3500 blk of Shelbourne Street to investigate a report of a vehicle that was parked in the area. The vehicle was believed to have been stolen from the Esquimalt area just an hour earlier.
While containing the scene, a Saanich Police officer located a group of males walking nearby. During conversation, additional Saanich and Victoria officers attended and recognized one of the men as Matthew Neely, whom they were aware had outstanding warrants.
Neely then ran from police but was quickly caught and taken into custody. He was later transported to the Victoria Police Department to be held for morning court. The stolen vehicle was recovered and charges are being considered.
This arrest highlights a timely investigation and collaboration by both the Saanich and Victoria Police to apprehend an offender that has fled from police previously and posed a significant risk to the public.

that's probably going to depend on the conditions they allege he breached.
Police said the man was arrested and police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and three counts of breach of conditions.

if they were serious he might be held for trial/guilty plea.

Everyone gets drawn in by flashing police lights. So why not a thread on local crime?

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP responded and located the woman’s vehicle headed south on the Patricia Bay Highway. The vehicle accelerated and wouldn’t stop when police activated their lights and sirens.
After a short pursuit, the woman drove into a police vehicle and was stopped before reaching Mount Newton Cross Road.
She was arrested. Her son and a female family member who was also in the vehicle were examined by paramedics and found to be unharmed.
Two officers were injured during the incident, one while responding to the initial 911 call and one when his vehicle was struck by the fleeing vehicle.

On December 14th at approximately 4:50 am the West Shore RCMP Bike Patrol Unit located a stolen vehicle in the underground parking lot of a condo building near the 2600-block of Sooke Road in Colwood.
The vehicle was occupied by 2 suspects (driver and passenger), who were arrested for possession of property obtained by crime. The vehicle, a 2017 Kia Forte, was reported stolen out of Surrey BC, and has been recovered by police. 26 year old Jordan BEAUDRY was charged with 2 counts of possession of stolen property and 27 year old Vanessa PERRIS-ELLINGTON was charged with 1 count of possession of stolen property and 1 count of failure to comply with conditions of a Recognizance.
“The Bike Patrol Unit targets prolific offenders in the West Shore. These arrests are just another example of the impact the unit has on reducing crime in the West Shore,” said Staff Sergeant Raj SANDHU, Operations NCO, West Shore RCMP.
