As if there wasn't enough to be worried about several RCMP cruisers were going through the area on the loudspeakers telling people out for a stroll to hurry back to their homes and stay safe.

Ok so the West Shore incident relates to a bank robbery where a firearm was produced.
hopefully all the teller gave him was information on the CERB program and ways to apply.

Sounds like they wanted people to avoid becoming hostages.

Fenton was sentenced to four years in prison for Beckett’s death, and was also given an 18-month sentence for a May 2016 incident in which he was driving drunk when a passenger was seriously hurt.
That incident came six weeks after Beckett’s death.
Fenton’s day parole was initiated last August. It comes with conditions that include not consuming alcohol or drugs, following a treatment plan for alcohol or substance abuse, not owning or operating a motor vehicle, and reporting all sexual and non-sexual relationships with women to a parole supervisor.
_______
The Parole Board of Canada said in written comments about further day parole that Fenton is required to continue to go to 12-step meetings and hold a job.
“The [Correctional Service of Canada] is of the opinion that your risk remains manageable in the community,” the board said. “You have demonstrated positive behaviour by securing employment and attending AA.”
The board said it was mindful of the gravity of Fenton’s offences in granting more parole.
“The impact of your actions, your attitudes that justified and rationalized your decision to drive impaired, not once, but twice, your disregard for rules and non-compliance with court-imposed conditions remain concerning aspects of your case.”
The board said it has put considerable weight on Fenton’s “commitment to sobriety.”
Overnight leave is not yet authorized, the board said.
It said Fenton is in the “early stages” of a properly reported relationship and had been hoping for overnight leave. He lives in a community residential facility, or halfway house.

ALERT | Increase In Thefts From Vehicles
Victoria, BC – Officers are reminding the public to secure their vehicles after an increase in thefts from vehicles over the first week of April.
There were 48 thefts from vehicles in Victoria and Esquimalt from April 1st – 7th. This is an increase of 29% compared to the last week of March, 2020. In that March time period, there were 34 thefts from vehicles.
April is Auto Crime Prevention month. This campaign, launched by the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) and ICBC, brings awareness on how to reduce thefts from vehicles. The increase in thefts from vehicles over the first week of April serves as a reminder that vehicle owners can help by being mindful of their vehicle security and removing their belongings.
Thefts from vehicles are often crimes of opportunity that tend to happen during later hours. Most thefts from vehicles occur after dark. A “9:00 p.m. ritual” of removing valuables from your vehicle after 9:00 p.m. can help to prevent theft from your vehicle.
There are additional steps you can take to protect your vehicle from being targeted, including:
· Always lock your vehicle
· Park in high traffic, well-lit areas
· Remove all valuables and personal items
· Never leave duplicate sets of keys in your vehicle
· Leave nothing in plain sight

i would not be surprised if petty crimes are up... just yesterday we were out we saw not one but 2 incidents of theft, i had to do a run into shoppers on the gorge, the kid remained in the car and in the 5 minutes i was in the store she watched a shop lifter come running out with a hand cart full of stolen goods, staff chased them, got the hand cart back, thief got away, and the second was at a 7-11 thief walked into the store while we were in there (filling a slurpee craving i'll admit) and took what we wanted then ran out the door before the staff had enough time to react to chase after.. now if those two incidents happened in the limited amount of time we were out in the world i can only imagine what is happening when we're not out there to see it... i feel for the staff having to put up with this ontop of everything else going on

I think criminals are thinking this is a golden era of opportunity . How many are stealing for the thrill or plain boredom right now .
