Oh my god.

Witnesses Sought After Victoria City Hall Office Window Shot

Victoria, BC –Investigative Services Division detectives are asking for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a suspected air gun shooting that that damaged an office window at Victoria’s City Hall yesterday.

Patrol officers were called to Victoria’s City Hall at 1 Centennial Square just after 2:45 p.m. yesterday for a report that a staff member had returned to their desk to discover damage to an office window. The damage was consistent with a projectile having been fired at the window from outside. The staff member was not physically injured in the incident.

Officers from our Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Major Crime Unit (MCU) also responded. Evidence at the scene indicates the window was most likely damaged by a compressed-air style air gun, such as a pellet gun.

Specific investigative information, including the identity of the staff member and the specific location of the office, is not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have information about this incident. To report what you know, please call (250) 995-7654, and select extension 1 for our report desk. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Shouldn't the Mayor chide Vicpd for telling negative stories instead of talking about positive things?

Seriously, how long until someone gets injured or killed, all in the name of city hall's discredited and dangerous game playing?

Also Adam Stirling said there was a similar gun incident a few weeks back which was kept quiet for some reason.

prank phone calls are not criminal.
or at least if they are, I’m out of business.

No they can be; well at least the police officer made us write apology letters for the evacuation.

it already has. An innocent young man from Quebec was killed by a Johnson street care home résident a few years ago. It was also kept under raps by the TC then.

The worst possible eventuality has already happened, a few times. But whenever the worst possible eventuality does happen, we just sweep it down the memory hole, reset the clock, and hope the worst possible eventuality never happens. There have already been appalling random murders, not to mention the stabbing of a police officer that might have ended in murder had good Samaritans not intervened. A community has to be severely jaded if it yawns & shrugs off wake-up calls like the Bussieres murder or the Wendland murder. (The which and the what? Are you making those up?) Victorians have been wrestling with some nasty demons & some very warped priorities for the past several years at least.

Just search the news for Victoria stabbings. It's crazy how many you'll find.

Witnesses Sought After Victoria City Hall Office Window Shot

Let's not jump to conclusions. Are we absolutely certain that City Hall didn't step in the way of an otherwise clear line of fire?

...it’s clear Wood wasn’t aiming at a person or intending to hit the car...

He was just shooting into the street. In fact, there’s some evidence that he might have been shooting at a street sign on the other side of the street and the car just drove into the path of the pellet,”

it's only news worthy if it happens to the mayor, council or city hall... otherwise it's no big deal

BREAKING: VicPD to increase Burnside-Gorge and Beacon Hill Park presence due to rising safety concerns among businesses and residents

Victoria, BC – VicPD is deploying extra officers to the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood and the Beacon Hill Park area, an initiative aimed at increasing police visibility and engagement in those areas.

This initiative is scheduled to run for the month of August and will consist of officers maintaining a consistent, high-visibility presence in the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood as well as in and around Beacon Hill Park. The goal of this project is to respond to the concerns of residents and businesses that have been expressed to VicPD over the past few weeks.

“We have heard from the community, especially through the VicPD Block Watch program, that they would like to see more of a VicPD presence in these areas,” said Chief Del Manak. “Our officers will therefore continue to engage with local residents to build relationships and to improve the safety of our community.”

Due to resource constraints, this initiative will be staffed by officers from across the department on special duty assignment.

I've heard from an associate who works with the COV that windows in the theatre in Centennial Square have been shot out in the last couple of days.

Amazing that Centennial Square has suddenly become the Wild West with guns blazing on a regular basis - and yet the City has said nothing at all about it?

The underlying implication would certainly be that it is fundamentally unsafe to walk anywhere around Centennial Square (including City Hall it would seem).

Glad to see that Del was able to get permission from the Mayor to do his job. I wonder if it is being announced today because the Mayor has decided to attended her Friday presser and wants something positive to say?!

Interesting that the mayhem is coming from outside City Hall. Make no mistake however, the greater harm to CoV residents still comes from within those "hallowed" walls.

Yes, good positive announcement: "I am taking steps to contain some of the damage caused by my previous announcements."

we need a press release to announce cops will go to crime hot spots? wouldn’t that just be normal? does VicPD even “patrol” anyway or just go from call to call until the end of their shift?

I had the exact same reaction. Some people have been grumbling, so in order to placate them we'll grudgingly carry out our fundamental responsibilities.

Terrific, but are you going to do anything about those bike thieves over there?

if the homeless stealing the sh*t did not have somewhere to hide it (free hotel rooms) theft would go down. that’s one advantage of the shelter cot system. no hiding your stolen stuff.

“The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is investigating reports of individuals receiving unsolicited packages of seeds.

Do not plant seeds from unknown origins. Unauthorized seeds could be the seeds of invasive plants, or carry plant pests, which can be harmful when introduced into Canada. These species can invade agricultural and natural areas, causing serious damage to our plant resources.

If you receive a seed package that you did not order, please contact your regional CFIA office immediately. Keep the seeds and packaging, including the mailing label until a CFIA inspector contacts you with further instructions.”: https://www.canada.c...s-of-seeds.html

Apparently this is quite widespread also happening in the united states involving hundreds of incidences: https://www.cbc.ca/n...apore-1.5669601
