Man Arrested After Residential Break And Enter, Foot Pursuit

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man after a residential break and enter and a foot pursuit this morning.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., Patrol officers were called to a report a report of a break and enter in progress at an occupied home in the 3000-block of Blackwood Street. The suspect had entered the victims’ residence while they were home, and then entered the bedroom where the victims were sleeping. The victims awoke, and one of them chased the suspect out of the home and away from the property prior to police arrival. There were no physical injuries to the occupants of the home.

The victims provided a detailed description of the suspect and multiple Patrol officers attended the area to locate and arrest the man. In addition, a Saanich Police K9 team attended to assist in the search. While officers were searching for the man, multiple people in the surrounding neighbourhoods called police to report a suspicious man with a similar description to the break and enter suspect. As officers narrowed their search, another caller reported a suspicious man with a similar description hiding in a tree in the 2900-block of Cook Street.

Officers attended the 2900-block of Cook Street and located the man who had been in the tree, who was the suspect from the break and enter. The man then fled on foot from police. A Patrol officer gave chase on foot and arrested the suspect near Cook Street and Kiwanis Way. The officers searched the suspect following the arrest and found that he was in possession of a weapon. The suspect was not injured in the arrest.

The man was transported to cells where he was held to await court. The man faces recommended charges of break and enter and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

This file remains under investigation.

i'm only half joking when i say this guy does not have many outlets for expression or reasons to live.

he obviously can't get a job with his publicity and it's hard to see how he could pass his time on other than reading science fiction books.

Wanted Man Michael Friesen Arrested After Barricade

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers, working with members of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), arrested wanted man Michael Friesen late this morning.

Michael Friesen was the subject of a wanted person notification early this morning. He was the subject of an unendorsed warrant for review of sentence in relation to offences such as fraudulent use of identification, unauthorized use of a credit card, and possession of stolen property for the purpose of trafficking. Investigators believed that Michael Friesen was actively evading police detection.

Shortly after the public notification, officers received a tip about the location of Michael Friesen. Officers then located Friesen in a suite in a multi-unit residential building in the 1300-block of Harrison Street. Friesen refused to surrender to police and barricaded himself inside of the residence. Members of GVERT attended the scene and officers continued to negotiate with Friesen to surrender.

After several hours of negotiations, Friesen surrendered to police shortly before noon. There were no injuries in the arrest.

Friesen was transported to cells where he was held to await court.

Thank you to members of the public who shared Friesen’s information and helped to resolve this file.

I never understood why people barricade themselves in. Do they think the police will just go away?

I noticed two of the four glass basketball backboards at the Crystal Pool court were being replaced last week. If anyone has a contact in the parks department see if you can find out the cause.

Victoria police arrested a high-risk offender wanted on a Canada-wide parole revocation warrant after sending an alert out to the public Monday morning.

Douglas McPherson is a federal parolee with a history of convictions for bank robbery and was considered a high risk to re-offend.

On Oct. 26 around 1:45 p.m. a citizen alerted officers to his potential presence in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue. Officers arrested McPherson without incident. He will be transferred to the custody of Corrections Canada.

VicPD have issued a subsequent correction to the below release. The incident occurred in a multi-unit housing facility along the 3000-block of Douglas Street, not in a facility in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street.
