File # 2020-20891
On November 28th 2020, at approximately 9:20 p.m. A West Shore RCMP frontline officer was conducting patrols near Helmcken Rd and Island Hwy in View Royal when he observed a vehicle swerving. The officer pulled over the vehicle and learned the woman driving the vehicle was not the registered owner and did not have a valid drivers licence. The woman was issued a notice of driving prohibition and the vehicle was towed.
The woman called the registered owner of the vehicle to attend the scene and pick her up. The registered owner of the vehicle, identified as a 23-year-old woman who is a resident of Saanich, showed up to the scene exhibiting symptoms of drug impairment.
The frontline officer, who is also a drug recognition expert, conducted an impaired driving investigation. The 23-year-old woman was determined to be impaired by drugs and her vehicle was impounded. The officer continued his investigation and located several firearms inside the vehicle including 4 semi-automatic rifles and 1 semi-automatic shotgun which were all seized. One of the rifles and the shotgun was found to be loaded.
Although the woman did have a valid Firearms licence, loaded firearms in a vehicle are illegal. It is also unknown why the woman had so many firearms in the vehicle with her. Given her impaired state and the unsafe storage, this was a public safety concern and the guns were seized. The woman will be facing both impaired driving as well as firearms related offences, said Cst. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media Relations Officer.

That’s some serious firepower, btw. A 9mm is the type of round police use in their Glocks.
so... 9mm and .38 are the same size, you actually can use the same projectile when reloading for either calibre. Both are also considered "pistol" calibres, not what would be considered high powered, like a hunting rifle etc.
That being said... I oppose criminals having guns. I don't like that these likely illegally smuggled guns are in the hands of criminals, but lets not sensationalize one gun to be more "scary" than the next.

Oi vey, you wouldn’t find me putting a 9mm into a firearm designed for a 38. They’re close enough but I don’t like the words “close enough” when it comes to firearms.so... 9mm and .38 are the same size, you actually can use the same projectile when reloading for either calibre. Both are also considered "pistol" calibres, not what would be considered high powered, like a hunting rifle etc.
I guess I meant it wasn’t a 22, which is what a lot of rifles that size and design seem to be in Canada. Anyhow, how are those firearm restrictions going wrt the criminal element, Federal Government? It looks like any baddie who wants one gets one.

That revolver has been prohibited in Canada since 1995, so it shows our criminals have respect for the gun control laws.

He was doing his business and otherwise walking around town with a gun like that on his person? This is straying into unfathomably ridiculous territory, don't you think?

Perhaps, but it's likely Bugsy Malone doesn't have a secure place at "home" to secure the guns. Likely that people in his social circle suspect or know he has guns so to keep them from getting stolen he has to carry them with him at all times. Although I suspect he's not a "long term" owner, that guns frequently change hands; as collateral, repayment, or in evading searches.
