Maybe some citizen has decided to start burning the tents down. I suspect that some people are close to the breaking point.

That doesn't appear to be what's happening with the way the two most recent fires were reported.

Not a lot of smarts exhibited here: https://www.liveleak...oCpm_1611470693

People surrounding, kicking and smashing a police vehicle are going to win the sort of prizes you might expect. The above incident happened in Tacoma. I link this here as we’re inevitably going to see something similar here. A few months ago we saw it in Nanaimo, where stupid games led to stupid prizes along the highway to Duke Point.

Perhaps we need to make greater use of house arrest or GPS tracking.

High-Risk Sexual Offender Arrested After Approaching West Shore Female Youth

January 25, 2021 - File: #21-3003, #20-41371, West Shore RCMP #21-1294

Victoria, BC – Cameron Ratelle, a high-risk sexual offender who was the subject of a VicPD public notification on October 17, 2020, was arrested after his parole was revoked after allegedly approaching a female youth in Langford.

Cameron Ratelle is a court-designated dangerous offender with a history of violent sexual offences against young women, believed to pose a high risk to re-offend against females, and targets women between the ages of 16-25.

On Thursday, January 21 st , 2020, West Shore RCMP were called by the parents of a female youth. She reported that she was approached by a man while at a bus stop on Peatt Road. The man spoke to her and she recognized him as Cameron Ratelle from the VicPD notification. The female youth kept herself safe and immediately spoke with a trusted adult, in this case a parent, who called police. She was not physically injured in the incident.

West Shore RCMP officers attended but Ratelle had already left the area. They notified VicPD officers, who located Ratelle the following day and took him into custody for breaching his release conditions. His parole was revoked and he was returned to a correctional facility.

Armed Suspect Arrested By Patrol Officers

January 25, 2021 - File: #21-3296

Victoria, BC – An armed male suspect was taken into custody by Patrol officers early this morning.

Just after midnight, Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential building in the 400-block of Pandora Avenue for a report that an armed man was stabbing a hallway floor and threating to harm people. Patrol officers arrived and located the suspect.

Patrol officers were able to negotiate the suspect into custody at gunpoint. A knife was recovered during the arrest. No one was physically injured. This call occurred as Patrol officers simultaneously responded to another call for an armed person in another residential building.

The man was not a resident of the building, but had been a guest of a resident there. The resident later told officers that they had become uncomfortable with the suspect’s behaviour and asked him to leave, when he took a knife from their kitchen and began to threaten them with harm. They were able to get the suspect into the hallway and call 911. Other building residents also called 911.

After the arrest, officers identified the suspect and discovered that he is a youth. During this time the suspect allegedly made several threats to harm officers and others. He was held in custody for court.

This investigation remains ongoing.

If you have information about this incident and have not spoken to officers you are asked to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654, extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Replica Gun Seized As Man Arrested In Firearm Call

January 25, 2021 - File: #21-3294

Victoria, BC – A man faces recommended charges after Patrol officers responded to a call about a man with a gun at multi-unit residential temporary housing facility late last night.

Patrol officers were called to a multi-unit residential temporary housing facility in the 100-block of Gorge Road East just before midnight last night for a report that a man with a firearm tucked into his belt was there. Patrol officers arrived and located the man, who was arrested at gunpoint. Officers recovered a realistic replica handgun during the arrest.

The man transported to cells and later released for a future court date. Officers are recommending charges of breach of a court-ordered condition not to possess replica firearms.

Replica firearms present risk to those who irresponsibly possess and display them, to officers, and to our community. Officers must respond to firearms calls as though these weapons are functional firearms until such time as their investigation has determined that the item is, indeed, a replica firearm.
