The vaunted Vic PD cant even catch one fugitive that's wanted on a nation wide manhunt what does that say? Where is protection for the refugees of the park?

Fugitives were easier to catch when the park wasn't full of tents.

Fugitives were easier to catch when the park wasn't full of tents.

And full of other fugitives.

I believe it's a nation-wide warrant, not a nation-wide manhunt.

I had to look up the word vaunted. You learn something new everyday!

he "fired (a rifle) at a campground" or he "fired a rifle (at an undisclosed target) while in a campground"?

^We should really cut him some slack.  Perhaps he's just expressing his anger at a world that allowed him the freedom of choice to get some ridiculous facial tattoos!

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man with a history of sexual offences on the weekend after he accosted and followed two young women in Victoria.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 10th, Patrol officers were called by convenience store staff in the 2600-block of Quadra Street for a report that two frightened young women were inside the store and had been followed by a man on a bicycle. The staff member reported that he locked the door to the store and the man aggressively attempted to open the locked door and speak with the young women.

Officers attended and learned that the young women were followed for several blocks by the man who repeatedly asked them to go somewhere with him. Despite the youth walking away from the man and asking the man to leave them alone, he continued to follow them.

Officers located the man in the area. The man fled from officers on his bicycle, but was quickly located and arrested without further incident. The man was known to police, with a history of convictions for sexual offences such as indecent act, and breaching conditions of probation.

The man was transported to VicPD cells where he was held in custody. The man faces recommended charges of criminal harassment, obstructing a peace officer, and assault.

This file remains under investigation.

Quite an involved criminal history. Aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and a failure to display a new driver decal.

Emergency Response Team and negotiators used at residence on Cowichan Lake Road

2021-04-15 - File # 2021-4135

Resized_20210414_185338.jpeg

On April 14th the North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP were contacted by a Duncan resident who had concerns for the safety of a friend, after going there to deliver some food. While there the friend noticed some unnerving behaviour from the friend who said they were not OK when asked, and their adult son began yelling for them to leave.

North Cowichan / Duncan front line members went to the residence on Cowichan Lake Road shortly after 4p.m. and attempted to make contact with the residents inside it. Through their interaction they confirmed there were two people in the house, however they were not able to enter the residence to check on the occupants.

The members made a decision to back away from the house to not rile the agitated man any more said North Cowichan RCMP Detachment commander Inspector Chris Bear. For the safety of all of those in the nearby area Cowichan Lake Road was blocked, and some nearby residents in an apartment were evacuated. The negotiators worked for almost three and a half hour to have the man exit the house on his own without success

Just before 8p.m. entry was made into the residence in order to ensure the safety of all of the residents. After a brief struggle with police, the man was apprehended. The man was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and a full medical evaluation. The homeowner was also in need of medical assistance, but suffered no injuries from this incident.

The complainant did the absolute proper thing in calling the RCMP in this situation said Vancouver Island RCMP spokesperson Corporal Chris Manseau Their decision to immediately call police allowed two people in need of immediate medical attention to get necessary treatment

Investigators continued to remain at the scene for some time after the incident. During their search an unloaded firearm and several knives were located and seized.

The North Cowichan / Duncan RCMP want to thank the community for their patience whilst being displaced temporarily, and those travellers who were diverted from their usual routes.

Cpl. Chris Manseau
