Handgun Seized In Search Warrant, Suspect Arrested During #VicPDWarrantWednesday

May 12, 2021 - File: #21-18396

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers seized a handgun after executing a search warrant at a multi-unit temporary housing facility in Victoria last night. The suspect was arrested this afternoon during our #VicPDWarrantWednesday enforcement project.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11th, Patrol officers, working with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), executed the search warrant on a suite in a multi-unit residential temporary housing facility in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. Officers located a .32 calibre revolver in their search.

The occupant of the suite was not located at the time the warrant was executed. In addition to the firearms offences included in this incident, the man was wanted on outstanding warrants for possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of break and enter instruments, breach of a release order, possession of identity documents, and drug-related offences.

Officers continued to search for the man. During today’s #VicPDWarrantWednesday warrant enforcement project, Patrol officers located the suspect in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. The suspect attempted to flee from officers on a bicycle. However, officers gave chase on foot and took the man into custody after a brief struggle.

The man was transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He will be held in custody once medically cleared.

This file remains under investigation.

did anyone ever consider when marginally homeless people had to find a place to stay with friends or family or a private landlord, they had to be on their best behaviour to keep that home - not be kicked out?

when we give these very same people free independent living that good behaviour becomes less important to them.

‘This is the part that I played’: Langford man says he drove 12-year-old Ally Thomas to buy drugs

The 33-year-old man, who would only provide his first name, Cale, says he drove the Grade 6 student and her two friends downtown to buy heroin on April 14. While he insists he didn’t know Thomas, or how young she was, he says it’s something he’s done with numerous young people before.

Well, today's T-C has just come out and it appears that "Cale" has doubled down by telling his story to the print media as well as CHEK. Thing is, the T-C gives his full name - Cale Goderre - and it seems there is a good reason for his previous reticence. A quick Google search brings up tons of stuff on him from Thunder Bay Creep Catchers in 2017 - video of him appearing in a park to meet a 14 year old, screen-grabs like the following:

UPDATE | Man Arrested, Nurse’s Stolen Bike Located

May 14, 2021 - File: #21-18829

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man this early morning and seized a nurse’s stolen bike.

At approximately 2 a.m. this morning a Patrol officer spotted a man pushing the distinctive stolen TREK bicycle in the 500-block of Herald Street. The officer confirmed the bicycle was stolen and arrested the man without incident.

The victim, a registered nurse who was giving COVID-19 vaccinations at the time her bicycle was stolen Wednesday, was working in the 700-block of Douglas Street at the Victoria Conference Centre.

Media partners were notified about the nurse’s stolen bike and widely shared its description yesterday. This bike was her main mode of transportation, and was the subject a Community Update. Officers are working to return the bike to her now - a fitting step during National Nurses Week, which recognizes the incredible, selfless contributions of nurses both every day and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The suspect, a 44-year-old Kelowna man who came to Victoria in January, faces recommended charges for possession of stolen property and was released with conditions for a future court date.

This file remains under investigation.

If you have information about this incident, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
