I believe today's stabbing is unrelated to the July 2nd stabbing. Do we know from another source that this is the same man sought in connection with the July 2nd stabbing?
Know it all.

Sorry, that was my fault.
I thought it was an update for the previous stabbing in that area and didn't realize it was a new stabbing.
I should remember next time how bad it is in Victoria. A stabbing one day could be unrelated to a stabbing the next.
I deleted the contents.

Victoria, BC – “Project Magnet”, a VicPD pilot initiative aimed at supporting Victoria’s downtown business community by combatting theft, took place over three days last week and resulted in 16 arrests.
“Project Magnet” ran from Monday, June 28th, until Wednesday, June 30th, with the goal of supporting Victoria’s downtown business community by targeting shoplifters at one retail location. The project was staffed by officers from VicPD’s Community Services Division and the Patrol Division.
The project is a part of ongoing efforts to support downtown Victoria businesses after the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to combat an increasing level of violence associated with thefts from retailers. Officers worked closely with local loss prevention officers in a coordinated approach that targeted shoplifters at one retail business within a mall in the 1100-block of Douglas Street. The success of the pilot project at one retail location provided officers with a model to apply to the wider business community in the coming months.
Officers arrested 16 people for theft over the three days that “Project Magnet” was conducted. Five of those persons arrested were also wanted on warrants. One person arrested was the subject of 12 outstanding warrants.
“The downtown business community is thankful for this initiative by VicPD,” said Jeff Bray, President of the Downtown Victoria Business Association. “Our local businesses have had a challenging year, and VicPD’s project to combat theft and the associated violence and disorder is a big step in welcoming community members back to shopping downtown. This project highlights the experiences of many of our downtown businesses, and we look forward to seeing VicPD around local stores in support of our business community.”
“Our downtown businesses are essential to the vibrancy and wellbeing of our community,” said Chief Del Manak of the Victoria Police Department. “As we approached phase three of the province’s restart plan, it was important for us to look at ways to support our downtown business community, to ensure the safety of store staff and the public, and to increase the feeling of safety when shopping downtown. We know that many thefts at local businesses go un-reported, and many instances lead to violence against loss prevention officers. This is unacceptable. “Project Magnet” was an important initiative, and something we will look to replicate in the near future.”
In addition to “Project Magnet,” officers are asking the public to report theft or disorder issues in an effort to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all those who use and access our downtown core.

Usually old people who don't really know how these newfangled touch-screen things work. That's why the police announce these on social media.

If the scam is too believable the call centre gets overwhelmed with replies but almost all of those people will bail once they realize it's a scam. It's a waste of the scammer's time.
But if the pitch is implausible, only the extremely naive or gullible will fall for it. It takes no effort to send out the texts, so if a million texts go out and only a dozen people fall for it that's still a good payday. Only a handful of people are going to respond to that text but quite a few of them will follow it through all the way. The scammer wants a few good leads, not tons of crappy leads.

Ironically I was at the Bay Centre yesterday while two mall cops stopped a man. He immediately started loudly stating he was being harassed as a FN person. Perhaps the mall cops interrogated their subconscious bias in selecting him for accosting or perhaps it was because he wasn’t wearing a shirt and had a backpack stuffed full of items that looked brand new with tags.

Asking for a friend …
So basically then what happened is that at anchor at the Bay Centre complained to mall management that shoplifting was out of control and that they needed to stop it. Mall management then calls the Mayor to complain who then calls Del. VicPD set up a sting at A store and arrest 16 people over 3 days, all of which are probably back on the street. At the end of the day the cops say they have sent a message and the anchor is happy because the crooks will just now rob other stores.

We have a shortage of thief's so in order to husband resources while ensuring support for the police and court systems we have adopted a structured management system of catch and release. it is the politicians way of fishing for a compliment.

oh ya wasn’t it being taken for $500,000 a month? in shoplifting losses.
I had to search the archives to find out who said that and it turns out it was me. The figure was $300,000 over a long period of time. Funny, I have no memory of who told that to me. So I guess I'm a good person to leak secrets to.

Or the Bay or Sportschek. Nobody else there would rank.
Anecdotally I am hearing that some of the national retailers with stores in the downtown core have their highest losses in the country in Victoria.
Once they start leaving and blaming crime then Helps and Co can't hide it anymore.
