What makes one think that they should have the right to bring children downtown.

I grew up in a very violent country but never did I witness or hear about kids being randomly assaulted in the streets. Emphasis on the randomness, but the point still stands.

There's no drug strategy if the "Treatment" and "Enforcement" pillars are simply ignored by city hall.

Woman faces 2nd-degree-murder charges in Leduc assault leaving one man dead

LEDUC, ALTA. -- A Lac La Biche woman will be back in court later this week after a weekend assault in Leduc left a man dead.

RCMP, fire and EMS were called to a hotel on Sparrow Drive near Airport Road at around 3 p.m. on Sunday for a report of an aggravated assault.

They found a seriously wounded man, identified as 44-year-old Patrick Ford of Port Alberni, B.C., who died as a result of his injuries.

A female suspect was arrested at the scene.

Thirty-three-year-old Tyra Phillips of Lac La Biche is charged with second-degree murder, and will appear in Leduc Provincial Court on Aug. 19.

Police told CTV News Edmonton the victim and accused knew each other, and the incident was being considered an isolated event rather than random.

every once and awhile i can't help but think about Leila Bui and her family and the fact that the driver Tenessa Nikirk who hit her is still out there... she spent 2 weeks in jail then got out on appeal.. this was back in January... and the appeal dates still are not set... this has been dragging out for years! and the Bui family having to go through the whole court process only to have to go through it again years down the road from the accident (the crash was in 2017) can't this woman just own up to what she did and serve her time

odd.

Sgt. Dean Jantzen, a public information officer with Saanich police, told Black Press Media the incident garnered a robust response around 3 p.m. due to the number of people likely to be in the area near the shopping centre at that time.

The man brandished the non-firearm weapon at officers, Jantzen said, before attempting to flee from police. He was safely arrested, near the Burnside Road Royal Bank of Canada branch, without incident shortly after, police said.

https://www.vicnews....illicum-centre/

Jantzen said it was “readily apparent” to both police and those who reported the incident that the man had a weapon.

what was the weapon?

baseball bat or baton

chain

taser

bear spray

water pistol

cannon

slingshot or catapult

crossbow

boomerang

It was probably something weird and difficult to describe, like a wheelbarrow handle with a sharpened lag bolt through it.

The cop wonders, how do we describe this thing to the media, and the other cop says, it's Black Press, you don't have to say anything.

Patrol Officers, Canadian Coast Guard Team Up To Recover Stolen Canoe

August 18, 2021 - File: #21-33060

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers, working with the Canadian Coast Guard, recovered a cherished canoe on Monday after it was stolen over the weekend.

On Saturday, August 14th, Patrol officers received a report of a stolen canoe spotted tied to a sailboat that was anchored in the Gorge Waterway. The owner of the canoe reported to the police that he had owned the canoe since the 1980s, had circumnavigated both Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii in the vessel, and that it had immense sentimental value. Officers attended to the Gorge Waterway but the canoe was not located.

On Monday, August 16th, Patrol officers received information that the canoe had returned to the Gorge Waterway. Officers joined the Coast Guard on a patrol of the Gorge Waterway and located a suspect travelling in the stolen canoe. Officers advised the suspect that he was under arrest for possession of stolen property. However, the suspect paddled ashore and fled the area on foot. Officers recovered the stolen canoe and returned it to the owner. A photograph of the owner, reunited with the canoe, is below.

Officers have identified the suspect in this incident and will be seeking a warrant for his arrest.

This file remains under investigation.

If you have any information about this incident, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

i guess you can't open fire on him.

maybe they brought the wrong craft for the job.  if they brought the hovercraft they could have continued the chase on land.

Nanaimo RCMP Investigating Homicide
Nanaimo

2021-08-19 09:04 PDT

File # 2021-30236

The Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a man’s death following a welfare check last week on Thursday.

On August 12, 2021 at approximately 3 p.m., frontline officers from the Nanaimo RCMP responded to a residence to conduct a welfare check after receiving information from the Kelowna RCMP. Once inside, police located a man who was deceased. His death was considered suspicious and the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit was called to take conduct of the homicide investigation with assistance from Kelowna RCMP.

The man has since been identified as 30-year-old Ryan Mosher, who recently moved to Nanaimo from Kelowna. The RCMP is identifying Mr. Mosher in the hopes that it will assist in advancing the investigation.

We strongly believe Mr. Mosher’s death is an isolated incident and the general public is not considered to be at risk, states Cst. Derek Balderston of the Nanaimo RCMP. Investigators have spoken to numerous people both from Kelowna and Nanaimo to assist in establishing what may have occurred.

Man Arrested After Brandishing Knife, Breaching Probation

Date: Thursday, August 19, 2021 - File: #21-33732

Victoria, BC – VicPD Community Services Division (CSD) officers, working with the Integrated Canine Service (ICS), arrested a man in Victoria this morning after a report that he threatened another man with a knife.

Shortly before 10 a.m. this morning, CSD officers were called to the 1000-block of Pandora Avenue for a report that a man brandished a knife toward another man in a threatening manner after a verbal dispute. The suspect then fled the scene, into a grocery store in the 1000-block of Pandora Avenue.

CSD officers, as well as an ICS K9 team, responded and quickly located the suspect as he was leaving the grocery store. Due to the fact that the man was believed to be armed with a weapon and had just committed a violent offence, officers arrested the suspect at gunpoint. Officers searched the man following the arrest and located three separate knives, as well as brass knuckles. The suspect was the subject of conditions of probation not possess knives or weapons of any kind.

No one was physically injured in this incident.

Officers transported the man to cells where he was held in custody to await court. The suspect, a 28-year-old Victoria man, faces recommended charges of breach of probation.

This file remains under investigation.

If you have information about this incident and have not spoken with investigators, please call our non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

UPDATE: Alleged assault on ferry from Victoria deemed a medical incident by police

One person taken to hospital for mental health assessment, say Delta police

Aug. 19, 2021

A BC Ferries’ sailing was delayed for 40 minutes Wednesday (Aug. 18) after ferry staff mistakenly called in a medical incident as an alleged assault to police.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., BC Ferries issued a service announcement saying its Coastal Celebration ferry was running 40 minutes behind schedule due to a police incident.

Spokesperson Deborah Marshall told Black Press Media there was an alleged assault between two passengers. Marshall said the passengers wouldn’t cooperate with BC Ferries staff when they tried to intervene, so Delta police were called to meet them at the Tsawwassen terminal.

Officers quickly determined the alleged assault was in fact a medical incident, Delta police public affairs manager Cris Leykauf told Black Press Media. She said no one was injured and there was no risk to the public, but one individual was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
