33-year-old charged with two homicides related to the Crofton deaths.

Justin James Dodd, 33, of Duncan is expected to appear in court on November 2, 2021 to answer to two counts of second degree murder in relation to an incident in Crofton early Saturday morning.

How do you access that sentencing report? It’s different than what I generally see on CSO

Choose an individual court date, then click "View" at the far right:

At the next screen, choose Sentences/Disp.:

Finally, click on the name of the accused and that will take you to the sentence.

Try to keep up here:

Three people have been arrested and three are in hospital recovering from stab wounds following a series of incidents on Saturday night.

Patrol officers were called to the 800-block of Johnson Street just after 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 23rd, for a report that a man was chasing two other men while wielding a large metal pipe. Officers located a man matching the suspect’s description and located a metal pipe with a sharpened end nearby. Upon identifying the suspect, officers learned that he had an outstanding warrant for a breach of a court-ordered condition. He was arrested and transported to VicPD cells where he was held for a bail hearing. The two men the suspect chased were not located.

A short time later, just after 9:20 p.m., Patrol officers were called to the 900-block of Pandora Avenue for a report that a man had been stabbed by two men. Officers attended and located the victim in a tent in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue suffering from potentially life-threatening stab wounds. The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services paramedics where he received medical treatment. His injuries are now considered non-life-threatening.

Officers learned that the description of the stabbing suspects matched the descriptions of the two victims in the previous call involving a man wielding a sharpened metal pipe. Those two men were then located when they attended an area hospital, themselves suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds. They were identified and arrested by officers.

These files remain under investigation.

If you have information about either of these incidents and have yet to speak with an officer, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Sounds like your typical Johnson Junkie Jab Party with the afterparty on Pandora.

I would like to know if the one with the outstanding warrant for breach of conditions was released on conditions again.

Wow, you guys are cynical. Yes, street stabbings in Victoria have become rather cliché, but I thought the sharpened pipe added a bit of freshness to the familiar theme.

Living in the CoV has become like an episode of The Walking Dead - but with taxes!

In my opinion the CoV show was pretty good back in the day, but it jumped the shark when they started adding way too many unbelievable twists.

Patrol Officers Arrest Man After He Requests Their Help Breaking Into ATM

Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2021 - File: #21-43073

Victoria, BC – Patrol officers arrested a man early this morning after he asked them to help him break into an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

Two fully uniformed Patrol officers were in the 900-block of Yates Street just after 3 a.m. this morning when they observed a man attempting to break into an ATM. Officers approached the man, noted he had already damaged the machine, and observed his continued efforts to gain access to the ATM for approximately two minutes. At that point the man noted that someone was behind him. Without turning, he asked those behind him to help him break into the ATM.

The officers then identified themselves as police and informed the man he that was under arrest. He attempted to flee.

He was taken to the ground where he fought with officers’ attempts to take him into custody. The Patrol officers called for additional units to attend to assist.

After a brief struggle, the man was placed in handcuffs and then taken to VicPD cells.

The man’s attempts to gain access to the ATM rendered the machine out of order before the officers’ arrival. No one was physically injured in the incident.

The man was released as officers continue their mischief investigation.

This file remain under investigation.

If you have information about this incident and have yet to speak with an officer, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

^ Why are they only investigating mischief?  What about attempted robbery, resisting arrest, assaulting police, etc.?

Our No. 1 regional issue is restoring public safety

Times Colonist - 27 October 2021

  •
  • -A commentary by the past chair of Grumpy Taxpayer$ of Greater Victoria, a citizen’s advocacy group for municipal taxpayers.

Increasing violent criminal activity in recent months highlights the need for a broad-based approach to restore public safety in our wonderful community.

Municipal politicians will be spanked in next year’s election unless they collectively deal with the issue of severe and violent crime.

Little City of Victoria now has a ‘big city’ public-safety problem:

If things are to be turned around, all levels of government and the entire community will need to step forward. The parochial self-interests of any municipality must not rule when dealing with what’s arguably the No. 1 regional issue.

West Shore RCMP arrest View Royal and Langford men following rash of break-and-enters, pepper spray incident

An investigation into multiple break-and-enters on the West Shore identified two suspects, one a man from View Royal and the other a man from Langford, and led to their arrest following a pepper spray incident. More from West Shore RCMP:

Between August 30, 2021 and October 14, 2021 at least seven break and enters were reported to the West Shore RCMP. This rash of break and enters all occurred within walking distance from one another. Suspects targeted vehicles and storage lockers in both secure and open-air parkades. Multiple victims contacted police to report numerous items being stolen, damage to personal vehicles and damage to the apartment buildings themselves.

Police were able to secure good quality surveillance videos from a number of the residences which captured predominately one suspect, who police were able to identify. The Vancouver Island RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section assisted with the investigation in collecting and analyzing evidence which led to the identity of the suspects, a 23 year-old man of View Royal and a 32 year-old man of Langford.

On October 6, 2021 the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit began investigating the identified suspect for a number of these offences. While conducting surveillance at a residence on Fairway Avenue in Langford, the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit witnessed an incident in which occupants of a vehicle pepper sprayed one of the guests while driving past the address. The West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit was able to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle in which the occupants, both suspects, were arrested.

“On October 15, 2021 the West Shore RCMP Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at one of the suspect’s residence and recovered stolen property from several of the break and enters as well as ammunition, crossbows and a small amount of methamphetamine,” says Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP. “This is an example of how one of several suspects are responsible for many crimes, resulting in an increase in property crime for one or more specific areas.”

The investigation remains ongoing. If you have any information, please contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Former Saanich teacher, kids club leader sentenced for child **rnography possession

Travis Mitchell taught at Hillcrest Elementary, worked at Boys and Girls Club

Oct. 27, 2021

A former Saanich elementary school teacher and Boys and Girls Club leader has been handed an 18-month conditional sentence for possession of child **rnography.

Travis Mitchell, 37, who taught Grades 4 and 5 at Hillcrest Elementary School, pleaded guilty to possessing child **rnography in June 2020, when a 12-year-old’s parents found inappropriate messages and pictures on their child’s cellphone.

Mitchell was the child’s former camp leader and had been sending sexualized messages, police found after the parents approached them. Police arrested Mitchell and seized his cell phone and computer, subsequently finding approximately 500 to 700 images of child **rnography.

A psychological assessment of Mitchell revealed he had been viewing child **rnography for two years prior to the offence and was first introduced to it when he was 15 by a 39-year-old man with whom he had his first sexual relationship.
