Throw a bunch of formerly cooped up kids into a downtown a downtown core with police already run off their feet and that’s what you’ll get.

I was wondering if the mayor would publicly condem the actions of these little thugs, but then I realized this is all probably part of her anti-car strategy:

A caller reported that a group of 100 youths were in the area of Government and Douglas streets, with some of them jumping on car roofs, kicking car doors

What’s missing is journalists telling us that’s all just perfectly normal, crime is down so stop talking about it.

It sounds that downtown is not safe at night on the weekends?

I need a car if I’m travelling downtown so I have a better chance of escaping  the violence around me .

Rather have my car get beat up than me .

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers

Dear Suspects,

Congratulations! You have both nailed it in these pictures as you were captured on CCTV. Just doing it yourself in a home improvement store on Tillicum Road, even the bit where you were seen stealing the Paslode nail gun was beautifully constructed!

It's a shame, that planning wasn't your strength as you realised the only way out was via the emergency exit drawing attention to your deed.

March 21st was when our Bob the Builder bandits committed this theft, can you identify them? .... Yes we can! Just call us at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip at victoriacrimestoppers.ca

First of all, here is the TC press release re-write, with zero additional information or quotes.

https://www.timescol...owntown-5363970

“Officers have learned that some parents are providing their children with bear spray and alcohol when their children have expressed a desire to bring knives and drugs into Victoria’s downtown,” said the VIcPD statement. “Officers are informing parents that this type of approach is unhelpful and is instead leading to increased violence and damage.”

But here is the thing.  The kids are expressing a desire to bring in knives and drugs, but the parents instead arm them with bear spray and alcohol.  Talk about bait and switch.  That sure does sound "unhelpful".

^ So one day after the CD runs a story that violence is declining in Victoria we get the truth about dozens of violent incidents in the past couple of weeks alone, and not just from the handful of miscreants the Mayor and her pals want you to believe.

Downtown residents tell me this has been going on for months.

This is exactly the outcome when youth realize the police are too busy and response times are lengthy. We also see it with general driving behaviour like running reds and doing stunts in front of other motorists. Is the cop, even if he sees you, going to waste time on a traffic stop? Small chance when he’s already moving towards an assault call.

What we really need to see is the mayor holding a press conference with the chief, reminding the entire region that if you come downtown, and act stupid, they will prosecute you.

Helps is on her way out. In my opinion the only thing she cares about these days is ramming through her last couple of per projects and making sure she doesn't do or say anything that might impact her next job.

In other words, it's business as usual for the mayor's final months.

Which begs the question. If COVID-era criminality posed a massive challenge for police, while the nightlife industry was closed, what are we in for this summer?

Already we’ve had one murder outside of a nightclub.

Alcohol related premature deaths in Canada far outnumbered motor vehicle deaths.  Where's the bike lobby against nightlife?
