It's been moved to a later date at another venue.

A cafe in Australia that charged men an 18% tax and gave women preferred seating will be closing down two years after it opened.

Who would have thought that sexism was a bad policy on which to base a business?

The man tax blew up the internet, an idea that we didn’t think was all too radical, yet the way the world responded showed us how fragile masculinity is and solidified the necessity for us to confront and dismantle patriarchy.

Orrrrrrrr ...your plan to operate a business positioned as a super edgy social justice pursuit actually made people uncomfortable, and instead of confronting patriarchy it literally offended the entire community in which it operated. Now that the dust has settled, the only thing fragile in that entire equation was ...the business plan.

^ It's all in how you word things. People don't bat an eye at Ladies' Night. It blew up because the framing was "men pay more" not "ladies get a discount." I'm sure you'd see the exact same thing if a business had a "<65 Tax" instead of a "Seniors' Discount."

At the end of the say it's a private business and they can conduct business how they see fit. No tears shed over this one (not even man tears, which are worth 18% more than lady tears due to scarcity).

Oh absolutely, the entire concept was to stick it to males, and it backfired in spectacular fashion.

Besides, every man knows that you need to bring a lady to Ladies Nite who will order the drinks on his behalf, and we're all getting closer to enjoying seniors discounts at some point, so it's alright. Where the train wreck begins is when entrepreneurs like our man-tax Australian friends actually believe that a business can succeed on the premise that it can openly discriminate against 50% of the population ...and stay in business.

^ I'm mildly surprised that the Quebec government approved license plates with English biological terms for the fellow in Baie-Comeau.  Or maybe that's why - it's just nonsense words.

Most businesses don’t free global advertising and a blanketing of social media coverage, though.

He better be careful or the Government may force him to change his name.

True but smart business people know their audience. In general, turning away customers who have money to purchase your product in favour of customer who don't is bad policy.
