Thomas Müller scored his first goal in the American MLS to help Vancouver Whitecaps to a 3-2 win over St. Louis City on Sunday.

The 35-year-old German veteran stepped up to score the winner from the penalty spot deep into injury time.

Watch the goal below.

There was some fifa signing thing outside of cactus club in coal harbour yesterday, the tent was built so you couldn’t see inside but it must have been someone important as the popo were hanging around keeping an eye on things. Lineup never seemed to get very long, maybe 50 - 75 folks.

What’s that called there, Olympic square or something? I just know it as the float plane / cactus club square.

Oh maybe that's what it was.  There was some sort of kids colouring sheet too.  I don't know - I was elbows up on the Feenie crispy chicken sandwich at the Club.

Maybe Aastra will weigh in. But I remember the whitecaps being such a big deal in the 80’s.

I know I used to follow close.

Even one trip to Florida with my folks I’d get up early to ride my bike to the store to get the paper (US Today) to read scores. But then most would be the next day.

Sure, that league was big for a while. In BC we exalted Bob Lenarduzzi as if he were Pele. But reviewing it now I see much of it has slipped from my memory. For example, several of the team names including the Toronto team. But I remember the Sounders and the Cosmos, and how the American broadcast likened Vancouver to a village (not really what he was meaning to say, but everybody was offended anyway).

I thought the White Caps were a newer phenomenon? Zero presence at all when I was growing up. Nobody ever went to a game, no kid wore their jersey or logo. I only heard of the team when in university.

Whitecaps (1974 to 1984)  > 86ers > Whitecaps (2009 to present).

I'm pretty sure the ocean has always had whitecaps. But don't take my word for it. Go ask a whale.

Vancouver Whitecaps not 'economically sustainable' with current BC Place lease, says MLS commissioner

https://dailyhive.co...-bc-place-lease

Sources tell Daily Hive that the Whitecaps take home less than 20 per cent of all net food and beverage revenue on a match day at BC Place.

That’s less than any other team in Major League Soccer.

Garber noted that the Whitecaps are at the bottom of the league in terms of revenue, despite being in the top half in attendance.

In Vancouver, fans packed the stands at B.C. Place during a Whitecaps FC viewing party, where supporters gathered to watch the club compete in its first-ever MLS Cup western final.

The ‘Caps finished the regular season second in the West with an 18-7-9 record, and eliminated FC Dallas and Los Angeles FC before taking on San Diego for the conference title.

Vancouver topped Miami 3-1 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal in April.

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano hailed Lionel Messi as "extraordinary" after the Argentine superstar steered the club into their first MLS Cup final with a 5-1 thrashing of New York City FC on Saturday.

A Tadeo Allende hat-trick and goals from Mateo Silvetti and Telasco Segovia sent a revitalised Miami roaring into Major League Soccer's championship game next Saturday at their home field in Fort Lauderdale.

While Messi did not get on the scoresheet, the 38-year-old provided a crucial, classy assist for Miami's third goal scored by Silvetti that effectively killed off the game as New York chased an equaliser.

Town of Mesa in Arizona is begging MLS for a new franchise, they are building a dedicated stadium for the purpose. MLS says they don't plan any expansion but an existing team could move there.

Oh oh, bye bye Whitecaps.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

Why can’t Vancouver keep any professional sports teams?
(CFL hardly counts)
