In office since 2014, Michel lost the support of the biggest party in his coalition, the Flemish N-VA, last week in protest at his support of a U.N. pact to foster cooperation over the world’s 21 million refugees.

Heres a relatively stable country with compulsory voting and a very strange prop rep system. Fascinating to see how many splinter groups are represented and how they have to form coalitions.

Does it make better government? Is life better or are taxes more 'fair'? Not sure, sounds like the same old nonsense just more cats to herd and false promises to make.

I have been under the assumption that prop rep was an inevitability here on the left coast ever since the GreeNDP CASA deal. Feels weird now that the decision is upon us and SO MANY people seem to think it won't pass.

And I want wolves or caribou!    I really do not want any of the other three so I I have vote No even though I want wildlife

I find it was more of a

  • Do you want to keep your orange juice or trade for a beer?
  • Rank these beers
    • Molson Canadian
    • An IPA you have never heard of and that hasn't been brewed yet
    • A pale ale you have never heard of and that hasn't been brewed yet

If you want a different juice, well that's not an option. If you want a Blue Buck, well that's not an option.

I am glad it failed given MMP was the system that came first in the alternatives and I REALLY dislike that one

The real issue with the referendum - it was very badly set up and highly partisan in nature

This referendum did do as well as the PR referendum in 2009, let alone 2005.

Also, of the seven Victoria ridings, only Lana Popham's, Saanich South, voted No

Green Sonia Fursteneau's riding voted against change

So, ~366,470 people selected our electoral system?

EDIT:  Botched the math, clearly.

845,235 selected it.
