I don't see ads in YouTube now, I pay for the Premium service.  Although, I'm getting annoyed at sponsor messages in videos now.  There are services that will highlight these and let you skip them too.

The more invasive and annoying anything becomes the harder people will try to work around it.  I give it little time before someone has a CanConBlock plugin :D

It is crazy how many ads now and sometimes how long they are....

I pay for premium. No ads. And the creators of videos I watch get paid out of my premiums.

I’d guess of all my viewing, I watch YouTube at least 60% of the time.

The rest of course is InfoWars and Daily Stormer. Plus Young Turks and The View.

Telus charges me an outrageous amount each month for internet service. They can pay my share to YouTube and online creators.

Canadian content would still be available all over the world...  I don't see that as a great argument for this particular issue.  Canadian content is typically good enough for Canadians as we have so many cultures here.  I'm sure the algorithm can have some adjustments to overcome this.  I think they are concerned about other things.  Not sure they are altruistic here either.  Do CBC shows suffer that fate?  Good ones find there way out to the world.

It's not about being good enough for Canadians, it's about being relevant to what a viewer wants to see.

If an American mechanic has a great video on how to fix something, and a Canadian mechanic has a less informative video, the federal government should not be requiring YouTube to show me the Canadian one because it's Canadian.

That's the beauty of YouTube, it shows you the best of the best for whatever you're looking for or into. And that's why it's so successful.

Well that's a whole different issue.  Since you were a tiny lad, Canada has always had added benefits to Canadian content.  It's not about what we want to see, it's about giving Canadians an opportunity to being seen.  This isn't new, it's just now being extended to newer mediums.  Maybe CRTC under Wiki can help with that history and reasoning....

I don’t want government dictating what I consume.

Wouldn't a VPN solve this problem?
