Mods:  we might want to update the header to include office space for this property.  There's an office component to the "Firehall Building", Colliers is now marketing it:

Thanks for this!

Why would they sell a portion of it if they will be developing it? Or, are they selling a portion that isn't included in the overall plan?

From the article:

Although pricing was not disclosed, Stevaluk confirms the sale to Carson Automotive Group, which operates dealerships that include Glenoak Ford on Douglas Street near Hillside Avenue and Suburban Motors on Douglas Street near Saanich Road, will include an approximate two year lease at Pacific Mazda’s existing property.

With the purchase representing only the dealership and not the real-estate asset, Carson will initiate a process to relocate the lot within that time.

And what did we say would happen as soon as the rezoning was complete - that Dalmation would package up the property and flip it. Sounds like the first step is underway.

The dealership under the Carsons will need to move within two years, there's no packaging or flipping taking place.

How else would they have built out the project if not following a relocation of the dealership?

A similar concept to Phase 1 of this project (fire hall w/ social housing above) has opened in Vancouver:

the article says only the dealership sold not the land. the dealership has to move in order to develop it.

even if they did sell it why would it matter? they are clearly doing the fire hall and social housing. they have to and then they can do the balance which is residential.  whether one group does it or another, what is the difference?

They have been taking delivery of the shoring equipment here over the last couple of days, including a large pile driver. Technically they have broken ground already in ripping up a bit of concrete, but nothing major.

the most exciting thing about this start is that the project is so close physically to the wade that when they both finish at very close to the same date in 2022 or 2023 we can watch both simultaneously in case it's a photo finish.
