I'm being a stinker. Obviously there are some new developments downtown that have bucked the recent trends re: exaggerating the bleakness. For example, I really like walking by the new fire station. Windows, light, colour, stuff. That's what a healthy city should be like. Not boarded up and covered over, even when the spaces are occupied and in business.

For a single occupant at this luxury retirement complex, it can cost up to $15,000 a month to call this place home. The residence is opening its doors to Victoria’s senior population on Dec. 10.

Amica Senior Lifestyles has designed the Jubilee House with 125 suites that can accommodate 132 people. Residents can pay $7,600 to $15,000 a month for the suite, food, amenities, and activities.

__________

The first move-in is on Dec. 12.

“Shortly after that, we have a lot of move-ins and back-to-back within that week,” said Eligon. “The first week we’re going to be busy with move-ins.”

The official grand opening for the Jubilee House is on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to amica.ca/jubilee-house to RSVP.

For $500/day I'd want some very top end activities.    :construction:

Ouch. Although I suppose we could rustle up a big chunk of it by downgrading our VV platinum memberships to VV gold.

1. If you move out of your home, you are leaving behind meaningful expenses. First off you will eliminate most of your food costs and utilities. If you are renting, you will eliminate your rent. If you are an owner, you will eliminate your condo fees and/or maintenance costs, as well as realty tax. It is impossible to provide a general savings number given the range in lifestyles and realty costs across the country, but it would be fair to say that most people will eliminate anywhere from $18,000 to $60,000 a year by not living at home.

If you own the property you are living in and have sold those funds can be invested to add additional income and drawn down if necessary to meet any difference.

Current income from a variety of investments, pension plans and RRIFs may also be available.

The example here is for luxury levels of living and the people considering it will probably need and have all the above.

Maybe Sparky can get off his duff and snap a few pics to confirm my report.

Boy....tough crowd.

Anyway your highness, I was up in my private vantage point across the street a day or so ago and snapped these just for you.

This development is in it's final stages. Quite nice in my opinion.

Nice. By the way, I went by there again afterward and I could have sworn more windows were covered over than the first time I went by, as per your pic. Knowing the recent Victoria fad, I have a feeling those ground-level shades will be drawn down a lot more frequently than I'd prefer. Anyway, at least for a few hours there was an abundance of clear window glass. Whenever you can see light, activity, stuff, and actual people doing actual things it just has an immensely different effect for passers-by.

As far as I'm concerned from now on your handle will be "Snappy" rather than "Sparky". You snapped those pics in a snap and then snapped at me about it. If only your fashion sense was a bit snappier... But anyway, nobody's perfectly snappy. I just want you to know we're all encouraging you to continue improving on the wardrobe aspect.

Take a break now and go enjoy a refreshing Snapple on Mike K. You've earned it.
