the other 2 canadian championship games out east had 1200 fans each.

“If we get to averaging 10,000 to 12,000 fans for our Premier League games in Canada, we’ll already be in the top 10 in Europe. Once you get past those big leagues, you’re in the area of Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Turkey and Portugal. I believe we can build to that. But we have to earn our way there.”

Not saying the CPL is anywhere equivalent to the English Premier League, but mid-week cup games against lower-league opposition frequently draw smaller crowds than league tilts over in England.

Halifax was in Vaughan, ON (Ontario Soccer Centre Stadium: ~2,000 seats)

York 9 was in Blainville, QC (stadium info not found)

It's not surprising that semi-pro clubs would only attract what we seem to be defining as a "pittance" of spectators to a mid-week evening game. Obviously this reasoning does not completely apply to the Pacific/Cavalry game, as they're both CPL squads.

As for the Wanderers game, it started off with a defensive giveaway gifting Hfx a goal in the 2nd minute. The Wanderers enjoyed the better of possession though most of the 1st half, scoring a 2nd late to enter halftime up 2 : 0. Vaughan was very much on equal footing in the 2nd half, and they punished some laissez-faire Hfx defending with 2 goals, 9 minutes apart, within the opening 15 minutes of the 2nd half. The Wandererers struggled to impose themselves as the game wore on it looked destined finish level. Atrocious crossing in the final third certainly didn't help. Fortunately a needless challenge by a Vaughan defender gifted the Wanderers with a last-minute penalty kick; one that was dispatched superbly. The Wanderers return to Halifax for the 2nd leg up 3-2 on aggregate, with 3 vital away goals greatly boosting their chances of progressing through to the next round of the Canadian Championship.

A mid-week game is never going to fill the stands and it rained on us quite a bit. (We were singing about making the walkway in front of the supporters section into a slip-and-slide.)

Among the CPL’s inaugural-season learning curves apparently involves scheduling. Today is PFC’s last home game for more than a month. PFC next plays at Westhills Stadium on June 23 against FC Edmonton. That will be after four road games — three league and one Cup.

Vancouver Armada did note though that no Canadian Premiere League players were announced on this provisional roster.

so there is not even a top-40 guy in our league. certainly will likely never have a top 23 then.

In the CPL's current structure, the two teams (victoria and halifax) will lock horns five times over the spring and fall seasons. Flying in Canada isn't cheap, so that would partly explain Pacific's operating budget that Dheensaw believes will reach $5 million. "I don't see how that's going to be made," he said.

I think that Pacific FC will struggle with attendance at the mid week games if the start time continues to be 8pm. That is too late during the school year at least.

The current attendance certainly calls into question the decision to expand the stadium to 7,000 and the $4M to move a hydro pole. Historically in this town we don't see attendance figures going up after the first few opening dates.

Certainly true in general, although in this case, with an outdoor stadium, I suppose there could be some optimism that July and August games will benefit from nicer weather. It would be more appealing to me.

What! Spending money on a sports franchise is a bad idea and generally a money-losing one for a municipality. Who knew? (uhh, everybody, spending money on professional sports is a really bad bet for munis)

well in this case they want to see the park used for other events. now if we do not see a concert in 2019 there might be an issue.

What is a money-making municipal pursuit, other than parking ticket revenues?

It is a bad schedule and hopefully the league will do a better job next year when they have more teams, a better plan, and some experience.

I should point out that if (by some miracle) we get past Calgary to advance to round 2 of the Voyageurs Cup, we would get another home game on June 5th.
