^ How about you guys take this somewhere else? Maybe a private message or meet for a beer.

Look I get it. A person puts their name forward for a political position with an agenda that some might cosider is somewhat controversial. This is why this thread has produced 9 pages of opinions in as many days.

Some might believe that city council should worry about road conditions and others lean more towards social issues. Vibrant Victoria is a place where we can have this discussion...but let's stick with that discussion and not drill down into semantics.

I thought that turning the tent city lawn at the courthouse into a children's playground could be a waste of taxpayer's money because I didn't think that that area had that many children. I was wrong. Every time I drive by, it is chock full of little tykes having a hoot. I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again. I am very glad that someone had a different vision than mine.

I live in an area that I do not want to see changed. Hell we even have an "urban containment boundary". You know...an invisible political boundary put in place to keep urbans out. This is elitist in so many ways I can't believe I am even bringing it up.....but it's there. Will this change in the future? Maybe...maybe not....but not without a big discussion first.

My father used to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if it is wrong. :)

So please let's keep to having cordial discussions.

Mmmm, I must be losing my ability to parse what's cordial and what's not cordial.

Nothing PPPDev or CasualKev posted, nor anything I posted in response struck me as anything less than cordial, just a different view of things.

I thought the points being made were pretty solid on both sides.

I've never defined a simple disagreement as non-cordial though, even if it's a 180 degree lack of consensus between two parties.

I thought the urban containment boundary was intended to keep urban in? You know, keep them from escaping? šŸ˜†

I heard Lore speak last year. She said that Christy Clark was a great example of a strong woman in politics and beamed as she noted Clark pulled it off while being a single mother. I guess she didnā€™t know that Clark lost her seat in her first election as party leader, and then the government in her second. I would also add that any ā€œsingleā€ parent making the amount of money she did wouldnā€™t be struggling in the way the majority of single parents are. Lore is not ready to represent anyone.

When most people think of a single mother struggling to make ends meet they are not thinking of one with a nanny, shared custody with a supportive ex and two 6 figure salaries to boot. Perhaps at the UVIC faculty club that is still considered to be toughing it out, but you would think that someone with a Phd in gender politics and who teaches on the subject might know a little bit more about who they are using as their example.

I am not trying to take anything away from Ms. Clark, but I think in her case she is no different then anyone else in politics trying to balance a family.

Exactly. It was surreal listening to her analysis of Clark. If she canā€™t figure that out, I have no hope for her managing real issues such as density and development, business or community.
