I don't think it is fair to tar him as mini-Ben any more. He has established a presence separate from Ben and is IMO a better councillor.

Absolutely. Any sort of elected official (IMO) should be pragmatic, open to all viewpoints, open to learning and willing to see issues from all perspectives. From what I've seen, Mr. Loveday seems to be pretty reasonable.

Isitt, on the other hand, is a zealot.

I agree with this 100%.

Alto is by far the most pragmatic person on council ... as well as being fundamentally unflappable.

She is definitely the only councillor I could ever see as Mayor ... and she'd certainly be a damn good one.

I third the motion! Has anyone approached her about running for Mayor?

Hi Nparker! I'd be totally be game to discuss this further. I'd think you'd find me rational and down to earth. I have things to say about the content of the posts that were pointed to, why they were made, and what I think about the future of Victoria and my role on city council. I'm always game for coffee in town to discuss.

Hi Grace, welcome to VV and thanks for creating an account.

Also, apologies on the belated account confirmation. Sometimes this squeaks past us.

Yeah pretty much this; on some topics I'm so right of the line I make Attila the Hun look like a socialist; I wasn't particularly a fan of JL initially not because he was/is left of centre, but because he seemed to come along as little more an ideological package with Isitt - the two of them essentially bolted together at the hip.

More recently though he seems to have established a more quasi-independent line of thinking from our resident in-house Marxist-on-Council, which IMO is the mark of a good politician - the ability to evolve and change one's train of thinking over time and particularly as he/she becomes more knowledgeable, experienced and comfortable in the public spotlight. And good on him for that....

Is it typical for an incumbent mayor seeking re-election to attend the campaign launch of someone seeking election to council?

Maybe it's often done, I don't know; I've just never noticed it before.

Of course, as a citizen Helps has every right to inform herself re: who to vote for, but doesn't her presence imply endorsement?

[And I'm pretty sure that's Chris Coleman standing in back.]

That's a good question, Kungsberg. In provincial/federal elections I'd say it's definitively an implicit endorsement but as municipal elections are less partisan, lower profile and more accessible, I lean towards no. Actually seeing the candidates in flesh is probably the best way to figure out what they're like and what their platform is, whether you intend to support the candidate or not.

Yup, we've re-tweeted Ms. Lore's post and posted her campaign announcement to Facebook.

Muni elections tend to be a great deal more collegial, so showing up at a launch isn't considered that extraordinary

Yeah, I wouldn't think into it too much. But I'm sure the mayor and Councillor Coleman see eye-to-eye on a number of issues. I mean it's hard to argue that the CoV shouldn't be more family-friendly.

I would put Ms. Lore's chances of getting elected as moderate to high. She will appeal to the base who elected Loveday, Isitt and to some degree Alto.

I think we might actually have not one but two councillors walk this election. That means we can expect upwards of three, if not four, new faces on council and a 50/50 chance of a new a new mayor.

100% negativity based on her gender (and SJW postings, of which I’m still not aware). The entirety of her public persona until she sanitized her Twitter profile was based on her gender. And then, it’s not her gender, but rather her gendercentric lens/agenda on which folk appear to be focusing. I guess she feels entitled to live by that sword, but refuses to die by it.

I would wager Lucas will not seek re-election but that’s just one guy’s opinion.

Councillor Madoff is also getting to the point where another four years could be quite a commitment, but perhaps she doesn’t feel this term is the one to call it quits.

The last four years have been quite turbulent for council. I can see some of them seriously considering whether four more years in municipal politics is worth their effort.

Councillor Isitt may or may not be eyeing the federal side of the equation come 2019.

Huh you mean when you are completely obssessed and base your entire worldview and identity around gender people tend to notice? Really makes you think

VV's Facebook page is pretty popular and nonpolitical; I don't think Lore expected the message board to be this much of a lion's den haha. But in her defense we haven't talked much about her actual plans as a prospective councilor...

I agree that Ms. Lore is likely to appeal to the same base who elected the the above. At this point I am less convinced she will bring an especially fresh perspective to the Council table.

She comes across as another of the Fernwood Farmers set. She'll fit in quite nicely pushing an agenda with Ben and Jeremy and Lisa...

My only critique of Lore's platform/website was regarding the lack of any wording around fiscal responsibility, a few days back.

Someone tell me how that makes that anti-SJW or gender focused? She posted '100%', no?
