I have never complained about using more fuel. Show me one instance where I have. Once again Ismo is putting words in someone’s mouth.

I do raise an issue, when you tell us drivers don’t pay enough in road taxes, to cover the costs of road maintenance and new roads, when drivers pay nearly 10x more in road taxes than what goes into maintaining and building roads. Where is the rest of the money going, Ismo?

Also, you are mistaken, if you think people choose to live where they do based only on finances. That’s a very narrow minded point of view. Not everyone wants to live downtown, or in Oak Bay, or in Saanich. I thought living downtown was cool when I was 30, though. I could not imagine living downtown in my 40s.

Again it's not more road tax, you are paying higher and higher gas taxes, where a portion may be used for road health but other portions are used for other things, and I think you know that.  Again you are not paying a road tax...  You can look up how gas taxes are spent and used...  I'm not your research assistant..  You did ask me to look up stuff for you I think, let me know if I got that right.

No I never said that people chose where they live based only on finances..  Weird to put words in someone's mouth, but I understand you are paraphrasing.

It doesn’t matter where the money goes. Drivers are paying it.

Like property tax. It doesn’t matter where the money goes, property owners and residents are paying it.

Why does calling it a road tax upset you?

I'm not upset (why are you putting feeling into this), I just correct you because the inference as a road tax would be that the money goes to roads...  And thank you for paying it, I love it...  Gas tax is not anything like property tax.  The gas tax amount is not calculated (I don't believe) where the property tax amount has to cover expenses etc.  There is some calculation to it.

Gas tax is just an added feature :)

It’s good that you’ve learned how much drivers pay in road taxes, so now you won’t make the mistake of saying drivers don’t pay enough for the roads.

You can always petition the government to move more road tax money out of slush funds and into road maintenance.

Btw, thank you for moving so much of the property taxes you pay, to taking care of our regional homeless.

They do not pay enough for roads lol...  This is the point and why you don't have a full 6 lane highway to Sooke.

Little bit of a d!ck comment about the homeless though...  But you are welcome.

For everyone reading this, this is why you feel poorer, with every passing year.

You’re paying more in taxes than you have ever before, for less in return, and often hardly any of what you are paying, goes to what you think you’re paying for.

Remember to thank Ismo paying for the homeless from your community, to live in his.

I blame the $8 per post VV fee. Sorry I'm so much in arrears!

🔹Sooke Road water main work scheduled for early 2025 sparks fears of another round of traffic disruptions🔹

Could Sooke he headed for another round of traffic Armageddon?

The Capital Region District is planning to start water main replacement work in early 2025 along Sooke Road/Highway 14 between Church and Phillips roads, just east of Sooke’s commercial core.

After tumultuous traffic jams between May and October that spanned many miles down Sooke Road stemming from the closure of Charters Road for road repairs (a thoroughfare between Church and Phillips roads), Sooke residents are staring down the barrel of a major infrastructure upgrade to a water main on the only east-west road to and from Sooke, starting this winter.

Meanwhile in 2026, the Ministry of Transportation is expected to begin right-turn lane work along the same stretch of highway, to help alleviate traffic congestion due to turning vehicles.

Residents speaking on social media are critical over the lack of coordination between the various agencies planning work that will impact traffic flow to and from Sooke, and the lack of detour infrastructure that could route traffic around highway closures. No such detour currently exists, and work on a detour is not expected to get underway until 2027 at the earliest.

Know it all.
